Thank you for your help in advance. To make a long story short, my child attended DODDS schools overseas (US military schools) up to 11th grade. He has been bounced across three continents his entire life. Unfortunately, only 12th graders were allowed to take AP and there were only four honors courses which he completed at the DODDS school. We had to get a waiver for him to take Biology as a freshmen since a lower level science is the norm in this system. He also completed a few high school classes at the middle school level which were included on the transcript but not in grade calculation. The grades have now be included in his transcript as unweighted despite students in our state receiving weighted credit for the same classes in our district. Needless to say, he is very disheartened with moving back to the US and the system seems unfair.

Now he attends one of the top high schools in the nation (his 9th school since K). A majority of the students take all AP and Honors classes freshmen year. It is not unusual for freshmen to take all AP classes. Despite taking a rigorous selection of Honors/AP/AICE courses now in 11th and 12th grade, he has been told to apply to vocational school or cc by the guidance counselor due to his anticipated 3.6 wgpa which is considered the bottom of the class. He has a 26 ACT (remember him saying ACT Math was 29). He has some extracurricular, ton of volunteer hours, did community sports overseas and held a job for three years until we had to move. He also won a few awards from VOD and art related.

My question is: How does he explain the school system discrepancies to college and his families military service (many remotes and long deployments)? At this point he does not want to speak about college as the school has made him feel stupid despite being in five AP classes this year.

Thank you for your help!
