(Help) My Course Schedule

Okay, good to know about ITAL - the 101 and 102 language classes I took were 4 credits (yikes) and a lot of work, so I was assuming Italian was the same. I would still probably drop something (which it sounds like she is planning on doing). You’re right about the lab - she can always go a few times and then drop if it’s too much.

If it were me and I was #2 on the waitlist, I would probably email the professor a week before the first day of classes and tell him/her where I was on the waitlist and that I would be coming to class the first day in hopes of getting in (be really nice). Don’t panic even though that is usually what you feel like doing, ha ha. Then I would go to class the first day and make it known that I needed to add the class, etc. Usually one or two people won’t even show up the first day so then the professor will write down the people trying to add the class and have you go to the department office to get added. This has always worked for me, so I think she has a good chance. : -)

Exactly how hard is taking two science classes at the same time?

I’m sure there are certain universities out there where that’s the standard, MIT possibly :S

Taking two science classes at the same time is absolutely possible, but it’s not something I would attempt first semester freshman year. See how you handle one first!

Anyone know the difficulty level of Math 232? Perhaps recommend a professor as well. Thanks

As everyone has said, I’d end up dropping the Astro lab if it’s too much.

To the post about 232: I found it harder than 233 and 383, just because sequences and series are what can really confuse some people. I’m sure you’ll do fine, and since it’s most likely taught by grad students, I can’t make a recommendation.

I’m a music education major, and will have to add music lessons and ensemble to my schedule. I’m also planning a biology minor (I really like science and it’s a good back up if teaching music doesn’t work out.) I placed out of BIO 101 and Lab, English 101 and Calculus. Here’s my schedule now: LFIT, SPAN105, GEOL103, DRAMA115, MUSC130/131. Along with the music lessons/ensemble, this will be 17 hours. I have a scholarship that requires me to maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep so keeping 17 hours is out of the question. What should I drop? I thought about dropping GEOL since I will have to have so much science to get the BIO minor, but also thought about Spanish since it’s 4 hours. Advice? Thanks!

I would probably drop GEOL since you’re going to fulfill your science stuff with the BIO minor anyway. See how first semester goes and then you can always increase your hours second semester after you’ve figured out how to budget your time with the music lessons, etc. I think LFIT, SPAN 105, DRAM 115, and MUSC 130/131 will keep you busy enough!

I agree with jambaby, drop geology. I think span 105 is 4 credits just because it’s an accelerated 101+102, because it only meets 3 days a week, not 4 like other 101/102 language classes that give 4 credits. It will also help get your language requirement out of the way sooner so you can focus on your music and science classes later.

Thanks guys- sounds good. That’s kind of what I thought, but good to get an experienced opinion!

I’ve noticed many freshmen start with unbearable schedules. But, pretty much all of them end up dropping down to a normal one. So don’t worry too much about your schedule being just right atm. Once you start going to the classes, you’ll be able to judge yourself (and can drop down later). In fact, I honestly think it’s better to start with 15 or more hours; that way you can choose which classes to drop. If you start with 12,13, or 14 hours, you won’t have any room to drop classes. You’re basically stuck with what you had.
