Despite how anyone may feel about whether freshmen grades should be included in calculating gpa, if you have been completely accurate about your guidance counselor's actions, then yes, what she did was unjust. Were you truly the only person she did this to? Who knows if the disparity would really affect an adcom's decision -- especially since both ranks are listed on the transcript -- but I understand your concern. I would suggest scheduling a meeting with her to talk over the situation. Just you and her -- no need to involve others in the discussion yet. Don't be angry or accusatory. Explain to her that you are trying to understand her actions and ask her to help you understand why she did what she did. Then explain your side of the story (perpare what you will say ahead of time). See if you two can come to an agreement about what can be done.

Regarding explaining your freshman grades, though it wouldn't hurt to have your counselor back you up, there is no reason why you yourself can't send a short, honest explanation for your freshman year grades if you think there is something the colleges should know. Don't make excuses, but do offer some reasons why you feel your later grades are more representative of the work you will do in college.

I hope this helps some.
