HELP! need to choose 3 aps

i have to choose 2 out of 3 aps to self-study...

-ap comp sci a (this isn't really self-study, i'd take the course on florida virtual school)
-human geography
-statistics

which two do you guys suggest? any additional comments would be appreciated

AP computer science on florida virtual school is a LOT (the most work I ever done for an AP class) of work, so if you have time go for it. Human Geography is crap and easy but very to study and Statistics doesnt cover much. So if you are looking for the easiest to self study go for the Statistics and Human G. But if you are looking for the toughest, go for Comp. Scie. and Statistics.

would about 50 minutes a day for comp sci suffice? im going to have an independent period at school, which is about 50 minutes, and im thinking about doing that...but after what you suggested i might do stats and human geo now...

hey! I am aking AP COmputer Science A right now at Florida Virtual School! And yes, I have no idea what the hell I am doing but w/e lol

What are your strengths? I'd say just pick the two of which you already know a lot about, or you know you're good at.

Human geo is ridiculously easy. I studied it the night before the test, got a 5 :)

50 minutes a day in descrete periods is not enough. What you need is probably good 5 - 6 strait hours of work / week.

is it really that hard? my friends (they took it at a different school in a class though) said that if you're good at math, its not that hard to learn

i forgot to mention that my strengths lie in math and science

It's not really hard, but time consuming and required continious work to finish an assigment. If you try to write programs in fragments, you will have trouble and will waste time. As for the math part, it's not rally math oriented, but more oriented towards logic.

Human geography is useless and almost no schools count it for AP credit (and the ones that do probably only give elective credit, which doesn't help much). If you're just AP whoring, take Geo and Stats, otherwise take CS and stats.

i've heard that CS is all and only java, is that true?

yes it's all java

nice! my dad's a programmer for bell canada, i can get a lot of help from him, self-studying CS A.

There is not much he can help you with. CS is something that you either get or don't get. In addition everything should be self-explanatory and there is no actual need for anything else other than a good textbook.

Well if your strengths lie in math and science, then it should be clear that you should choose CS and Stat...

well, ktoto thats what teachers are for, actually - to explain stuff you dont understand even with the help of a book.
BTW what's a good book on that? :)
PS should i rather call you "somebody"? ;)

Yes, someboady should work. The best book to use, dima, would be the Barrons review book (its more like a textbook with over 700 pages). I think it helped me a LOT!

ktoto, what did you get on the ap comp sci test...is the online course good

what about princeton review? From my experience, PR books are good at sciences (chem, physics, bio) and barrons books are good at stuff like history.
PS i meant that ktoto=somebody in russian ;)

PR was very useful in Bio. I don't know about the others though.
