I don't honestly even know how this happened or what I was thinking, this is my first time back in school in six years and initially signed up for more classes than I was able to take on. I ended up dropping a class thinking that I would still be perfectly fine with my financial aid requirements. I just received an email saying I have been placed in "Warning" status and have until the 8th week of the current term to appeal? I went back and looked and realized that the writing class I completed was not the 4 credit class (like I thought) and was actually only a 3 credit class. What do I do?? I'm so upset I really can't afford to loose my financial aid, am I disqualified? Do I have to pay for 6 credits out of my pocket in order to get financial aid again? This is all so discouraging for me if I do have to pay out of pocket for a time I will end up dropping out and continuing full time at work which is not the path I want to take for my life. I have a new baby and husband at home and I know it was a stretch to take on school right now too but I handled it all really well and ended the term with a 3.5

Please any advise or information would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows what happens to your eligibility when your in warning status?

FA for full time is 12 credits, because I dropped the wrong class that was the 4 credits and continued taking the 3 credit class (which I thought was 4) that puts me at 11 credit for last term.

I think its quarters… fall, winter, spring & summer (which is optional and only offers limited classes)

I’m just confused by the SAP form and whether it means that when you are in warning that you have the next term to meet the required credits and GPA to return to good standing or not. It does say at the bottom of the form that "you are eligible for FA if you are in good standing or in warning status, you are not eligible if you are disqualified.

Unless you completed all credits you paid for, it doesn’t look like you have any basis for an appeal (late grade & grade change don’t apply for you). If you do meet this criterion, you should do the appeal to get back to good standing. If you will have to stay in warning status, then you need to make sure you meet all SAP requirements next semester or you will lose you aid. For example, if you are in warning & drop from 14 credits to 11, you will lose your aid - what is the definition of “successfully complete?”. You need to find out … if that means you must not only stay in the required number of credits but pass them, as well, that is important to know. In addition, you could lose your aid if your cumulative gpa drops below 2.0.

Please talk to your financial aid office so that you can get a good understanding of their policy. Our policy is very different, so I don’t feel comfortable advising you beyond this basic info. You need to drop by your aid office & chat with someone so that you know what you must do in order to keep your aid.

Probably depends on the school. My daughters school does have that option. She only ever dropped a class once but it took her just below full time. The FA office said she was fine but we were nervous as there was a lot of money on the line between her merit scholarships and FA so she went ahead and signed up for a one credit hour business class offered at her school. She was horrified as she has no interest in business but it was a consumer credit class and she learned a lot and was glad she took it - s/b required for all college students!!. Timing would be an issue also - even online classes have sign up deadlines. On the other hand my sons school does not offer any such classes.

But warning status sounds like it means you are ok for aid but must be absolutely sure to meet all requirements while you are in warning status so you do not lose aid for the subsequent period. As kelsmom said - talk to your FA office to make sure you completely understand the requirements. We can only give opinions - your FA office are the ones that you need to talk to.
