Help please. What should I do next? No one around me can answer or suggest anything.

You’ve gotten a lot of good advice here. I have just one thing to think about: although it would be cheaper to stay at home and commute, is it possible that a change of venue would help your mental state? Associating with other depressed and challenged people can make it difficult to break patterns.

Good luck! As others have noted, your writing reveals that you are an intelligent and talented person.

You might consider one of the higher rated historically black colleges. The admission departments at those colleges are adept at finding scholarships and assisting first generation college students. You might have to leave California but they can give you a true college experience with limited funds.

I have no advice to add, but would like to encourage you to set a goal, and stick to it no matter what. Depression sidetracked you in the past, and that’s completely understandable. But you’re too talented to let that happen again. You do write very well and are obviously intelligent. Stay strong!

Sending you best wishes & support from the East Coast! Advice you have been given & summarized nicely in your post #10 is right on. Keep focused on your goals & bright future.

You know, the historically black colleges advice is really good, too. It might be another way to go other than a community college, though I also think a community college is a terrific place to begin your next adventure in life. Good luck to you.

Another consideration is a Jesuit college or even a Jesuit high school. The Jesuits are committed to higher learning and social justice. If you google Jesuit institutions in your area you might find one that would be a fit for you. Perhaps they’d let you start out with one class - I think you would find their philosophy and teaching inspirational. Best of luck, don’t give up. It’s clear you have a vision for a positive future.
