HELP!! Senior in high school...Failing AP CALCULUS AB

How bad will this look to colleges such as James madison university and ODU or VIRGINIA TECH or penn state?

I don't understand anything and im failing miserably. If i switched out would that look bad too? Will colleges reject my application if they see that I failed/ dropped an ap class my senior year, on my mid-year report??? I NEED HELP FAST!!

Can you go to your counselor and ask to switch to an easier math class? Ask if it can be done so your transcript doesn’t show that you were in AP Calculus AB.

If you can drop without penalty, I don’t think colleges will know.

Otherwise, there’s not too much you can do. At my school, if you drop it after 5 weeks, it’ll show up as an ‘Incomplete’ on your transcript, which is just about as good as getting an F. If you could manage a passing grade for the rest of the semester, you could drop it second semester without getting the 0.00 recorded into your GPA.

Thanks you guys! But i can’t even manage a passing grade it is that difficult for me! Even with a tutor! There isn’t an easier math class I can switch in to at this time.

■■■! But thanks for replying.

ab calc isnt hard just study.

hardest part about math is getting your head around the concepts, from there it is simple

wish i woulda realized that my freshmen + sophomore year… i had a 3.6 both those years now I have a 4.25 lol

realized that hard work pays off

Everybody eventually hits the wall in math, they reach a level where the difficulty of the material is just beyond their comprehension no matter how hard they study or are tutored. The point at which one hits the wall is different for different people. For me it was Tensor Calculus which is one of the reasons why I went to medical school rather than continuing on to graduate school in Astronomy which I received my BS in. For the OP it seems like he has reached his limit at AP Calculus and continuing the course would probably be an act of futility. Whether it will hurt his chances for college admission if he drops the course will probably depend on what he wants to major in. If he wants to major in History of English I doubt it will be a big deal. If he wants to major in Physics or Chemistry it is obviously a major problem.

As far as straight-up admissions goes, the first thing they look at is GPA. If your GPA takes a major hit, it’s not worth it. If you think you can pull ahead, I’d say try it but be mindful… the more you put into one class, the less time you have for others. If you have to do 4 to 6 hours of extra work a night just to keep up in Calc, it’s not worth it.

I’m in the same boat with Physics. I’m probably switching down to a regular class because I’m just not that good with numbers. I’m already spending many extra hours every night only to pull through with a B (literally all my other classes, including many AP classes, are A’s.) Thankfully at my school, they don’t look at it as an incomplete or anything. If you transfer over, the class is basically null and void and doesn’t get factored in from what I’ve seen.

Good luck man!

What concepts are you not understanding in AP Calculus?
