I got a "C+" on Honors Alg. 2A/Trig. back in sophomore year. I did some researching and found this place where I can retake this class for honors credit and I'm positive I'm gonna get an "A" cause its an easy class and I'm familiar to the concepts.

If I get an "A" it replaces the "C+" and my gpa and rank is boosted as well.
Although colleges/universities still see the "C" that grade doesn't count toward my gpa and rank, only the "A".

Do you think its worth it to retake? If my GPA/Rank go up alot, then I think its worthwhile. The class costs $900-1000.

I don't care about retaking the class for learning's sake because I'm basically guaranteed an A, it's basically a review for me. The main reason I want to retake it is because I'm planning to apply to ivy leagues and other selective colleges and a "C" will definitely kill my chances. My mom is willing to sacrifice her hard earned money to raise my GPA/Rank. But I feel really bad about this, the money could be used better like for bills, cheaper summer programs, travel, cheaper classes etc.

I'm applying to UC's next year and I heard that their admissions are very stats based so maybe this could help. But I don't know about Ivy Leagues and other privates, they might like my higher gpa/rank. They still see the "C" but my gpa/rank will be higher, please help me I'm confused!

Here's my current stats:
Junior (2nd semester)
4.3 W 3.66 UW
42/754
* currently have an A in pre-calc

I feel really guilty right now :'(
I need alot of advice, I need to be convinced to go through my plan or to cancel it.

So you think it’s worth it to retake a “C” for an “A”? how will colleges look at this? If it is advantageous for my chances in the future, then I suppose its worth it and I’ll be saving money to help.

But if retaking it would not help me much, then I’d much rather use that money elsewhere.

^ no other options, I checked everywhere, this is my last chance to get rid of that “C”, well colleges are still gonna see it but its not gonna count toward my gpa/rank. If i get an A though, my rank and gpa are gonna go up alot.

I don’t know if its worth it, please I need more advice!

Can you use The Keystone School Online do get the credit back? I know they offer that and many high school’s count it as credit. I believe their algebra 2/trig course is 300 dollars.

^hmm even if I did do the keystone school and bump up my gpa/rank, do you think colleges will consider my new grade, even though they can still see the old “C”

I’m asking if its worth it or is it a lost cause.

don’t Do it. An ivy league education is not worth it. Just go to your UC’s. Forget Ivies. They’re for the REALLY RICH or the REALLY POOR. The intermediates should go to state/decent schools and do well there. Don’t worry about the “C”. Just do well in college and everything will be okay. You have my word. I talk from experience.

^ Man, your crazy. I’m out here grinding for everything to get into selective schools and I will only settle for “intermediates” when all my efforts are exhausted, I was weighing whether doing this will help my chances because my rank/gpa would go up quite a bit.

What I hope people will enlighten me with though is whether I can still get into Ivies/ top universities with one “C”. But I’m willing to sacrifice money if that means I’ll stand a better chance. But if it doesn’t matter much, then I’ll keep the money.

^When I said I “Talk from experience” I meant it. For example, my sister had three C’s in her transcript when graduating high school. She went to her state school and guess what she does now? She’s a pharmacist making $57/hour and $86/hour on overtime hours. Take that for what you will. I can give you more examples but you know how they end.

In the grand scheme of things, a “C” won’t screw up your salary, which is what your major focus should be. Don’t worry about the Ivy ********. It’s all overrated.

^ bubba, where do you go to school? and if my chances are killed by one that “C” then by hell, I’ll take that expensive class and replace it with an “A” then I will have a chance!

really? You would actually spend a $1000 dollars to have a chance at an ivy league school? A measly CHANCE? Think about what you’re doing here. In the grand scheme of things, going to ivy is pointless.

On the other hand, if that A means the difference between getting a $1500 in extra scholarship money each year for 4 years and not getting it, then it was money well spent.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your family income? From that, it would be better to gauge your decision on actually spending the money. If it’s low, don’t spend the exta $1000. If not, be my guest!
