Help,This can't be right! (Math question)

<p>17 "Tom and Alison are both salespeople. Tom’s weekly
compensation consists of $300 plus 20 percent of his
sales. Alison’s weekly compensation consists of $200
plus 25 percent of her sales. If they both had the same
amount of sales and the same compensation for a
particular week, what was that compensation, in
dollars? (Disregard the dollar sign when gridding your
answer.)"</p>

<p>I got a totally different answer, I got 2000 but college board says it is ...
first solve it and I'll tell you the right answer.</p>

<p>The compensation is 700</p>

<p>they equal each other at 2000 total sales though but thats not what the question is asking.</p>

<p>That the right answer but how did you get 700?
I still don’t get it.</p>

<p>Oh okay I see it.
You have to add the .20(sales)+ 3000 to get 700.
Ohhhhhhh.
Thank you. : )</p>

<p>I also got $700. Alison needs to “make up” $100 on Tom through her commission. She will make $5 more per $100 in sales than Tom will make. Thus to make the $100, she would have to sell $2000in goods or services. $100/$5*100=$2000. Each person will then be compensated $700. Tom would get $300 in wage, plus $400 in commission and Alison would get $200 in wage, and $500 in compensation.
You figured out the sales, but the question asks for their compensation.</p>
