Help, Three kids in college

Next year we will have three kids in college, 2 FR and 1 SR. We had a good income in 2007 and the EFC for each child came to $ 30K. Unfortunately, I lost my job in August of last year and have not been able to find a new one yet. I know we can appeal the financial aid awards (lack of it) but you can only do that after you accept the admissions (typically after May 1st) at each school. Do we have to pay admission deposits at all schools that we want to negotiate aid with and potentially lose it? Do colleges negotiate in good faith after you accept their admission?

Ours is the same situation. Husband lost his job in October and hasn't had any luck so far. One school known for good aid gave us a great package based on last years income and assets, but under the current circumstances it just isn't enough (plus, I had sent them documentation about job loss when we applied for FA so I'm not sure if it was already considered). We are waiting on one more acceptance and FA package, then I am going to have to make a decision on whether to send my son to a state school or appeal to the school with good aid. If I do the latter I will definately post with details on the outcome, becuase I think I'm going to do it before the May 1st deadline. Are the schools your kids go to known for meeting need??

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I would think it would be worthwhile to contact the fin aid officer and talk to them about it- verify whether it is already included, whether or not you can expect a change etc.

If you lost a job in August, unless you had killer severence, then your income already reflects 2/3 normal, so I am not sure how much more they will choose to adjust!
