HELP - Transfer back to original university?

Hi guys, I’m in a super tough position right now and I’d love to hear some of your feedback about my situation and how I should proceed. I started my freshman year at a city school in the Midwest. It was a weird transition, being thrown into the city of Chicago at a young age was tough to adjust to. By the end of freshman year, I had made the best friends I have ever had. I had become adjusted to the city life and was liking it by the end of the year. At this point, I had already applied to transfer to a small prestigious school in California - one I thought was my “dream school.” Blinded by the beauty of the campus and dreams I had about living in California, I left my first university and transferred. The school was awesome at first, since I was still in my “honeymoon” phase. As time went on, I started to realize some things that I wish I had thought about before transferring. The people there are very different from my previous school - they all are extremely wealthy, pretty much all white, and fairly ignorant. I definitely made some friends, but they are extremely different from the good friends I have at my previous school. The community is much less open minded. I have no idea what I want to do career wise, so my major would stay the same. I would save $30k a year if I transfer back to my original school. However, I’d be very nervous about going back. I’m nervous about the whole idea of transferring and what people would think of me. I know that I shouldn’t care, but I can’t help to wonder what people would think if i returned and transferred AGAIN. I feel like I failed. My good friends have joined sororities and made new friends. I don’t doubt they’d be happy to see me return, but it’s a tough decision. I found that I like the city life more than the suburban feel of California. Has anyone transferred back to their original university? I think I would thrive more at my original school - but I can’t decide if I should just stick it out at the school in California, or go with my gut and return to Chicago. Any thoughts?? Need advice!!

“I would save $30k a year if I transfer back to my original school.”

Where, exactly is that $30k coming from at the present, and what would you do with that savings.

Here is a suggestion: Take the fall semester off. Do something that isn’t school at all. If you don’t know where you want to be by second semester, take the rest of the year off.

Lots of people transfer out and then go back. If you decide that is what you really want to do, don’t feel bad about its.

Do what you think is best and don’t worry what “people” think of you as honestly, most people aren’t really thinking of you. It isn’t uncommon to do a year of undergrad studies at a different university (although this is seen more when students go abroad.) . You would list both universities on your resume especially since the one you would be leaving is prestigious. After listing the U where you got your degree, you could list “Undergraduate studies, Expensive U in California, 2014-2015.” But as the above commenter suggests, if you really don’t know what you are doing perhaps you should take some time off.
