Hi,

I've been selected for FAFSA verification, and I'm not sure how to proceed from here.
I have been married for 3 years, and am now separated (living separately but separation is not legal yet) so I was advised to file as separated on my FAFSA application. Now, I'm being asked to produce a document explaining how I survived, or my 1040s.

I know that last year, she filed jointly for some sort of tax break. I didn't make anything however and its stated that I made 0 income. This year I'm not sure if she filed jointly, but I'm thinking she did again since we are not divorced yet. I really don't know how to proceed because last year I was (I hate to say it) completely out of work and made 0. This year I didn't file. I'm not sure how to move, and I'm having a hard time trying to get a hold of her tax papers (doubt she will even pay attention to my requests). I'm thinking if I DO produce her tax papers, it will disqualify me entirely as she makes to much.

I am pretty poor, and don't have to file tax returns because I'm pretty broke. My wife however makes a lot. Not sure how to move here so I can just get past verification, and go to school. Without Financial Aid, I wont be able to attend. Its just too much.

I also don't want to get red-flagged here, and go through anything I don't have to.
Can someone help?

Thanks so much.

Anxious.
