Hey i'm currently a junior in highschool. And recently i'm signing up for classes for senior year. I'm can't decide whether i should do orchestra or another science class. (human anatomy) If i do orchestra i'll have 4 years straight, which i heard is great. But if i do anatomy i'll have 6 years (classes) of science (i will have doubled 2 years.) I love science and i wanna do pre-med at Hopkins? Which one do you think will help with admissions?
would it be better if i'm a more science-oriented student? or a well rounded?

i’m kind of struggling with the same problem, and ultimately i decided to go with the science. idk about you and how much you love orchestra, but for me, it’s not one of my most treasured activities and also, my teacher and class started to get annoying. i’d do it if i didn’t have the change to take the extra science, but especially since you’re leaning towards medicine and know that it’s what you want to do, maybe the science would be a good choice for you too.

I’d pick the science

Obviously the science class.

Assuming you’re already taking a science (preferably AP), I’d go with orchestra. Why drop something you like?

You have all the time in the world to take science courses at Hopkins. No need to try to cram them all in now. I can assure you that taking anatomy will not make the difference between admission and rejection.

Blah I had the same problem, but with AP US. I didn’t take it so I could be manager of the tennis team for a second year (to end up having three years total) and to be able to take Chemistry (which I couldn’t do AP regardless cause it was only offered at the same time as AP Calc. Argh)

Are you a god at orchestra? Do you love it and display extreme amounts of passion for music? Are you a science nerd? You need to ask these questions to yourself and decide yourself.

I would go with the science course, especially if you are planning to do Pre-Med in college. Research and sciences are highly competitive at Hopkins, so the more you can show interest in them, the better.

I say take what you want to take. JHU or any other school won’t accept or reject you over a single course, especially the ones you are talking about. I found out I was admitted to JHU yesterday. This year all my friends are taking 5-6 AP’s. I decided to take what interested me. I’m taking 3 AP’s (Calc BC, Physics C and English Lit) with one music course and two honors…because they’re interesting to me. I’ve been admitted to all 7 schools so far. My only rejection was MIT. Still waiting for Tuesday, so it obviously didn’t hurt me. Good luck.
