help! will i fit in??

I am most likely attending Duke in the fall and am curious to whether or not i will generally fit in. I am male, upper middle class, white, christian, conservative, farily athletic and good looking (in my opinion :) ) and i am interested in joining the greek system. However, i do not drink and, like i said above, have very conservative morals. Thanks for any and all insight (especially from current students)!

Na I don't think you will. Maybe you should just go to a CC and then transfer to a school you will fit in more.

jerbear - my D tells me there are many Christian oriented organizations on campus. Although she did not join any she stated they were among the nicest and friendliest individuals she met freshman year.

Here is a listing of approved student organizations:

Office of Student Activities and Facilities :: Student Organizations :: Directory of Student Organizations :: Religious

You can go here to get details on the fraternities:

Fraternity and Sorority Life :: Governing Councils :: Interfraternity Council :: Chapters

you'll be fine!

i think he's fake.... that's just me though

You sound exactly like a few guys I know who are in CRU. They have no trouble fitting in. As long as you are a likable, kind person* you won't have a problem.(non drinkers typically don't have problems fitting in, its the people that try to evangelize non-drinking that can sometimes have issues)

*these guys I know are pretty popular but they are really nice most of the time, like if one of them lost their temper I would be really really suprised

I'm in the same situation as you where I don't want to be a big partier b/c the whole binge drinking hookup culture is against my morals but i still think im going to apply to Duke b/c I know someone else who goes there and has a huge group of friends like me..I'm sure you'll be fine..you seem like a likeable friendly, outgoing guy. *there should be more guys like you out there for us girls lol :) Good luck at Duke!

You should look up my D... she's hoping to "fit" with some of the same values. She did on overnight, and still felt it would work. She had to think about it quite a bit, but she decided on "Wellness" to dorm. We shall see!

Oh and by they way there are multiple ways to "fit in" if you are going to be a hardline non drinker. But I wouldn't suggest wellness dorm if you are the type of person who will want to rush greek. (I'm not that type of person and I love the wellness dorm kids; they actually come to RLHS programing) But it seems that the Brown kids don't do too well at rushing fraternities. (again, not a fraternity person, just an observation from three years living on East)
