Help with a grammar comparison

<p>I usually never miss illogical comparison related questions, however it seems a comparison that I thought was illogical is actually logical, well at least that is what BB 2nd ED. answer explanations online state.</p>

<p>Btw this is on pg.893 in the BB 2nd Ed. Number 5</p>

<p>Is this statement grammatically correct</p>

<p>They had less work to do than their colleagues.</p>

<p>I had thought that it would have to be</p>

<p>They had less work to do than their colleagues did.</p>

<p>Now I am not really sure regarding this comparison;could someone please help me?</p>

<p>There’s an implicit verb. In the most technical and inclusive sense, “did” would have to be written.</p>
