Help with Ap classes!

Hi, I need advice on what Aps I should take next year in my junior year of high school. I want to take Ap biology, Ap Language and Composition, and Ap physiology, then i’ll have trig for math. I also do basketball which is 24-7 throughout the year. If basketball is too much ill drop it. I don’t know if those 3 ap’s will be too much for me or if i should drop one, since i’ll have to prepare for the sat as well. I like science and i’m also in science honors society, deca, and joining the history honors society.

Oh and my school for junior year will be implementing block schedule… idk if that will help with the Ap stress load

No such class.

Anyway, some people can handle 3-4 AP’s with ease; others struggle with one. Nobody here knows what type of student you are. Check with your GC or teachers if you are unsure.

ok thanks… and oh lord i meant ap psychology

That combination is not extremely intense in comparison to other trio loads (Bio can be a bit difficult due to amount of content, but if your teachers are good it should not be too much). To ditto, talk to your GC and maybe ask some of your like-minded friends for advice. In a public school, I’ve seen great AP teachers (“I should have a good number pass, and it shouldn’t kill anybody” teachers) and some eh ones (“We’ll see; last year, we had around 2 pass, but it’s just because it’s a really hard concept” teachers). Check which ones you have, and ask them for their advice as well.

Good luck and enjoy your upcoming year. Tough luck with that basketball schedule; I know I couldn’t even go to school if I was dribbling non-stop 24/7 :stuck_out_tongue:

Trigonometry is considered a remedial course in my school. Can’t you take honors precalculus?

I think that is a solid course load and shouldn’t be too much with your basketball. Of course a lot of it depends on your school and teachers. Remember you can probably drop a class within a certain # of days without it showing on your transcript so you won’t be stuck in 3 APs if it is too hard to manage

I can’t take honors pre calc unless i parent override ;( and thank you guys!

@Bobbybob444555 Weird you said that. My school doesn’t offer precalculus, so we have to take a class called “Math Analysis/Trigonometry” right after completing Algebra 2. I’m pretty sure this is state-wide as well, don’t quote me on this though.

Every school does this differently. Bottom line is that pretty much every school will have a class between Algebra 2 and calculus, although they might name it differently.

Trig is usually, for an honors class, part of either the Algebra 2 (more common) or the pre-calc curriculum. A standalone trig class would generally be seen as below honors level.

My advice would be
AP Psych
AP English Language
Trigonometry
US History (Honors?)
Foreign Language 3 or 4
Physics

Have you taken Honors Bio and Honors Chem, and done well (B+)?
Once you’re done with Bio, Chem, and Physics, you can choose one AP Science.

Ive taken both bio honors and chem honors and gotten straight As in both. In my school once you are done with chem you do not have to take physics. All my friends are doing physics but i’m not that into the math involved with physics. Oh and yes i’m in all honors classes

it’s not about high school - most selective 4-year colleges want to see one each of bio, chem, and physics at any level. So you could have Bio Honors, Chem Honors, take Physics regular, and it’d be fine. Of course you can take AP Bio junior year and Physics regular senior year, but since your friends are taking physics I’m not sure it wouldn’t be more fun to take physics now. Doesn’t matter as long as you take it.
Be aware that AP Bio is very time-intensive so I’m not sure how it’ll mesh with “basketball 24/7”.

@Alllviiinnn Oh, my school has trig/math analysis too. It’s not really a remedial class but it’s below precalc here. After taking trig/math analysis you’d still have to take precalc after.

@Bobbybob444555 We don’t have pre-calc, I don’t know if that’s a bad or good thing…

@Alllviiinnn It doesn’t really matter.

I found AP Capstone Seminar (if offered at your school) to be very helpful!
