Can someone tell me if trig substitution, for example int 1/sqrt(4x^2-49) dx, is going to be on the AP Calc BC exam or not? I searched online and some sources said that it isn't required and some said it was. My Calc teacher didn't teach it to us though, so I'm really confused about whether I should spend time learning it or not. I do find it quite difficult. Please help, thanks.

Yes, I’m almost positive trig sub will be on the exam. Bane of my existence Paul’s Online Math Notes does a pretty good job of explaining it here: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcII/TrigSubstitutions.aspx but I’m still kind of lost as well.

Best of luck!

thanks a lot!

For what it’s worth, there wasn’t any trig substitution when I took the exam last year.
