Hi guys,
So here I am, couple weeks away from the due date of college applications and I still have no clear idea of what I want to study. I have interests but no clear approach. I did eliminate what I did not want to do. I have gotten over my initial want of studying premed. Though I was interested at one point, I have come to terms with myself: I only wanted to be a doctor for success ($$$) but I have realized, I would much rather just do something I enjoy and success can be found anywhere. I do not see myself walking patient to patient everyday and being happy if it didn’t mean a big paycheck.
SO, here is where I am having my troubles. I have 2 interests right now and would like to keep both open in my undergraduate years so that I can decide later. I know, its better to decide now, but frankly, I cannot. My two main interests are: Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering. If I study CS, I want to do an MBA as well so that perhaps I can start my own company. Biomedical engineering is something that has always been at the back of my mind. I feel like my skills are truly apt for BME ( I excel in my math classes as well as my bio/chem classes). However, after doing some research I see that an undergrad in BME is not very useful. I have read multiple posts, here and other forums, that BME is too broad of an undergrad major to be very useful for after college purposes. So this is where I need help.
What programs do you guys know of that will allow me to perhaps pursue both of these interests? If not, is there any way that I can do my undergrad in CS and grad school for BME?
When it comes to colleges, I am interested in Georgia Tech, UMich, Vanderbilt, and Stanford. I believe I have the credentials to be a competitive applicant to the first three schools (4.4 GPA, 12 AP Classes, 35 ACT, tons of EC) and Stanford is just Stanford…
I live in Georgia so I would have in state for GT which is pretty nice. But other than that, I’m looking at paying a lot of money unless I get scholarships, and that’s okay as long as the programs are nice, I want to apply and see what happens after that.
I don’t want to regret not applying to a program because I did not know about it so please, dear helpful souls of CC, please enlighten me with your knowledge of these fields, possible programs to look into, or just motivating tidbits from your lives.
