Something about myself:
I am an average south korean student, staying in california.
I have abroad residence experience: India for 4 1/2 years (2nd grade to 6th middle)
Came to USA in middle of 8th.

Would I have a chance if I ED any of the four schools mentioned?

Do you need financial aid? Three of these schools are not need blind to internationls. The 4th is incredibly competitive for Koreans given it’s Korean president.

What is your rank? Are you taking SAT again to raise CR?

I agree with RedRoses. I had a friend who was also an international student (Chinese, though a citizen of Canada). Chicago waitlisted him, saying that he was exactly the kind of student they wanted but that there was too little financial aid for international students. They told him to try and transfer in next year.

i think i need some unfortunately, since my family isn’t extremely rich…

Then you really can’t apply ED, accept maybe to Dartmouth. However with a below media CR score and no exceptional EC, it would be very, very tough.

As an international needing aid, and one from a country that sends many applicants, in addition to the ivies you need many schools on your list where your stats are at the very top of the applicant pool. You will need to apply to more schools than American students do because finding money as an international is especially tough right now.

There are only 6 schools need blind to internationals, down from 9 a couple of years ago. With endowments down, there’s less money than ever for your pool.

If you are female, take a look at Smith and Mount Holyoke. Post on the international board here for more suggestions of schools known to give aid.

In addition to what Redroses said, in addition to FA issues, college admissions for international student is also harder because you are sort of competiting against students applying from your native country, and a good number of colleges only allot a certain number of spots in the freshman class to internationals. Don’t underestimate the potential difficulties. Good luck!!

thank you for the replies.
i didn’t know i was in a disadvantage… but i guess i am.

Being an International student is tough, but your extracurriculars seem like a " typical" asian candidate.

I think Dartmouth is the only one that is need blind for Internationals so it might be the only one to look at.

I had a friend who was in almost exactly the situation you were in this year, and he got rejected into many top schools. (ended up choosing between Berkeley and NW)

Though normally i’d recommend ED to Columbia, i don’t know how that would apply to your situation.

As others on this thread have already stated, if you need financial aid, Dartmouth is the obvious choice.

You have a very good application, just be sure to get good recommendations and write a killer essay. Be careful about EDing though, thought Im sure that you have already heard that.
