Help .. with In-state tuition

Call CUNY to ask for clarification.

Read over the CUNY Residency Application Form.

You are reading the requirements for a ‘dependent student’ You are now independent. Read the requirements for that. Did you and your husband file tax returns for 2013? Are you filing now for 2014? Those are what they will ask for. If you incorrectly filed 2013 as a single person (or your husband did) you can amend those returns. You can file as married even if you married on 12/31/13.

yes… im extremely worried about the situation … but it sounds so strange because im an independent and i file taxes with my husband so i shouldnt be questioned upon my mothers info …
thank you @madison85

@twoinanddone yes, we filed taxes for 2013 … but the problem is that they are also asking for parents’ tax federal tax returns in order to be considered as independent.

You need to contact the college. Tell them that you are married.tell them the date you got married. Tell them how long you and your husband have lived together in NY…hopefully it has been over a year.

Your issue is that you are 20 years old. The school wants to verify that you are an independent student…and that is not usually the case for 20 year olds.

Find out what they actually require. See if your tax returns will suffice.

hm … thank you for the help @thumper1

It seems like the standard residency determination form assumes applicants under age 24 would not be married.

Did you file a joint 2013 New York state income tax return?

What month/day in 2013 did you move to NY? What day does the semester start this month?

yes … @Madison85 … exactly

yes we did

i moved on end of nov, 2013 but have went back for some work … the semester starts on jan 28

i think i should also provide my marriage certificate as proof of my in-dependency
