help with Junior year schedule?

So i just received my final grades from my sophomore year and my cumulative gpa is now a 2.9 UW. Yeah, I know its bad but it is bad with good reason, which of i will talk about in my application essays when the time comes.

Anyways, i need my gpa up to at least a 3.7. I have 14 more classes left to take before i graduate so it is definitely possible if i work my rear off.
My standing schedule for next year, as of now, is:
Veterinary Science
Animal Science
Honors PreCalc
Honors Physics
Honors USH or APUSH
AP English Lang & Comp.
& im deciding between taking Spanish 4H or AP Bio since Bio is a double period…

So here is what im wondering…should i take APUSH or stick with regular? Should i stick with Honors Precalc or go to regular (math classes only are why my gpa is so low so Im going to get a tutor either way, i just really want my gpa up…)? Should i take spanish and Ap stats or go with AP bio? are there any other classes you’d recommend, any online courses that would count towards my school gpa, or any other ways i could bring my gpa up? My current focus is animal science and possibly marketing.
also, with spanish, one of my top school choices is ASU and they only require 2 years of a language, so thats why i would even consider dropping it.

First, mathematically speaking,you can’t go from a 2.9 sophomore to a 3.7 senior year - if you only get A’s for two years you’ll have a 3.45.

Second, some universities only use 11th grades and senior course rigor but not senior year grades, in particular state universities.

That being said, a 3.3-3.4 is a solid GPA. There’s even a thread in the parents forum with lots of good college suggestions and their kid’s admission results including scholarships.

Another way you can offset your GPA is by practicing for the SAT and act. The higher the score, the better your choices. There’s no secret to standardized testing: focused practice. Take a practice test and figure out what problems or types of questions you always miss, then practice all kinds in the same type till you get 10 in a row correct for several days. Once that’s insured move onto another type of question.

Are you instate for ASU?

Since the problem is math, take precalculus regular and if social science and humanities are good take APUSH. However perhaps start in precalculus honors if your school allows you to drop down - but if you start lower than B make sure you switch to regular.

Take either animal science or veterinary science (how are these two different?) Not both.

If you’re good at Spanish take Spanish 4H since foreign language rigor is always good.

Keep AP bio for senior year.

You could take APES or AP CS Principles or AP stats for your final course. However AP stats may be better saved for senior year since you say math isn’t your forte and taking two math classes at once probably wouldn’t help, sobif you can take APES or CS Principles it may be better.

Then senior year take AP stats, AP bio, whichever vet or animal science class you didn’t take junior year, AP gov/econ, English honors, and whatever strikes your fancy

I’m not in state for ASU, but I’m eligible for a large amount in scholarship and that’s really where I want to go…NCState, but I live in Connecticut.

For vet and animal science, theyre part of an Agriscience program that I am in in my school. The requirements are that we take at least 2 classes in the major of interest that we have. I’m trying to get one of those changed so that I can take Agribusiness management since I also want to minor in Marketing, to see which I’m most interested in.

I think that I can talk to my guidance counselor about switching if one or more of the classes gets too difficult. I’ll do the work for APUSH so that if I decide to take it, it will be done. And I will probably take CP pre-calculus just to be safe.

This last year, I did not do that great in Spanish (only got a B where the last few years I was getting As) but I think that was because of the teacher for the most part. I really have no interest in taking spanish again but I know that it is a requirement for a lot of colleges (taking a language for 3 years)

.

Okay guys so here is an updated version as of now.

AP English

Honors physics

Regular pre-calc

Vet science (or Agribussiness management)

Animal science

AP bio (still deciding if I want to handle this next year too)

Deciding between forensic science, AP enviro, or human physiology.

I either want to go into pre vet med, dentistry, or marketing…but I want my year to be impressive yet not tooooo hard to chew because I need to get my GPA way up. And I’m not very great at math…

save the AP Bio for Sr year. Same with AP Enviro.
add a US history and Spanish class.
your current schedule is WAY too lopsided in favor of science.

You need us history or another history class as well as a foreign language - those should replace APES and AP bio, which you can take next year.

I agree with @menloparkmom and @MYOS1634 You are missing two core classes, and you are taking five science classes…!!! It’s fine to take classes you enjoy, but you can’t sacrifice your core/necessary classes to take it.

Whoops!! Meant to include APUSH! I’m taking that lol. And I really hate language…I’ve taken two years of Spanish, I guess I can take it again but it’s going to be really difficult next year.

Plus ** if I want to take AP Bio, which I reallyyy do, then I couldn’t take a language because bio is 2 periods

That makes it better, but I’m assuming you’re aiming for competitive colleges. Most competitive colleges REQUIRE three years of language…and recommend 4 years. I’ll just put that out there for you.

Yeah. My top choice is ASU, or Cornell (currently Cornell is a reach because of my gpa). so what else could I get rid of other than a language but still take AP bio? (I must take two classes in my agriculture program that I was accepted into so those include animal science & vet science or agribusiness.)

TAKE AP BIO your SENIOR year!. And skip a 4th year of Spanish.
BIO does NOT have to be taken your Jr year.
With your relatively weak current GPA, and your desire to bump it up considerably, I STRONGLY you ONLY take APUSH class next year, which requires a LOT of reading.

Take APUSH and Spanish 4, take AP bio senior year.

Your goal for ASU should be to get into Barrett (otherwise it’s not worth going from OOS).

Prep over the summer for PSAT/SAT aim for 1240-1300.

Take AP Bio your senior year. AP Bio is one of the hardest Apps and in order to boost your GPA you want to be able to take courses that you will succeed in. It would be better to take Spanish 4, going past the minimum requirement looks better on college apps
