I am a senior who is still very unfamiliar with the whole college process. I have gotten one teacher to agree to write a letter for me. My first question is simply whether or not most colleges require more than one. After very briefly looking at the websites of a couple of colleges (Tufts, Rochester, Carnegie Mellon, and Penn State), I very well might have been mistaken but I thought I read that none of them required more than one letter. How often is this the case?
My second question is, if I need two, whether or not I should be in some sort of state of panic about still not having asked another teacher. My counselor has made it pretty clear that it should have been done by now, and everybody I've asked also already has two. I'm fairly certain I won't be applying early, so with this being the case, how bad is it that I don't yet have two? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ask two teachers who you have a tight relationship with and whose classes you’ve done well in, and then your councelor should provide a third letter. Don’t freak out. Just pick your two teachers and as soon as you can ask them if they would feel comfortable writing your letters. If one declines, then look for another.

It really isn’t too complicated and you have time, so i wouldn’t be freaking out.
