Thanks for any help or advice you might give! I did already post this, but I posted it on the wrong forum, so here it is again. Sorry about any inconveniences!

When it comes to the Common App Essay, I need some help with picking the topic I want to run with. Here's some things that might be useful for you all to know about me before a continue:

I truly am a "well-lopsided" student. My passion is politics, and my extracurriculars reflect that. I started a Young Democrats Club at my school, was elected in my county's Democratic primary as a Precinct Committee Person, serve as an intern on a state house campaign, serve on my county's Central Committee, ect. This is going to probably be the 'focus' of my application as a whole. However, I don't want my application to seem overly repetitive, so I am leaning against writing my main essay about what my political involvement has taught me. Is this a good decision?

In terms of other topics, here are the main ones I'm considering.

1) Frankly, I haven't had to deal with too much adversity in my life until 2nd semester my Junior Year, when one of my closest friends committed suicide. It was a devastating loss for me. Some of my class grades fell, but I fought through the constant sadness and, with the help and support of friends and teachers, ended up the semester with a 4.0 . The essay I would write under this option would focus on this story, how the loss impacted me, and how I eventually learned the value of having friends with humanity in them (from the constant community of support I had around me).

2) This is also from the 2nd semester of Junior year. I was improperly placed in AP Calc AB, because I didn't have the prerequisite of trigonometry. Because of this, in addition to the stress from the suicide of my close friend, my grade in the class slumped to a 'D,' and remained there for 2/3 of the semester. However, with countless hours of work and with support from my teacher, I was able to learn what I missed from trig and raised the grade to an A by the end of the semester. Again, the essay would focus on overcoming great challenges and the personal growth that occurs because of the challenge.

3) I have a disease called dyspraxia. This has affected my speaking abilities -- all throughout middle school, I would have to go to speech therapy. Even in high school, I have difficulties with some words. With that said, through hard work, I was able to overcome the worst parts of my speech impediment, and I recently won 3rd place in parlay debate in speech/debate in my state, served as Junior Class President, and was elected to be ASB President -- all activities which require significant amounts of speaking. Though it might sound insignificant, all of these achievements were extremely emotional to me, because it showed I had beaten the worst effects of the disease.

Any thoughts on the topics? Should I maybe look into other topics, or should I make my essay focused on politics like the rest of my application? I'd appreciate any and all feedback -- positive or negative. If you need any more info, about myself or where I'd take the essay topics, just leave a reply here and I'll respond. Thanks!
