answer = 2.5

ImageShack - Hosting :: picture2xt9.png
answer = E

those are the only two i missed on the math section. any help on em?

i made em a picture so you could see it exactly.

edit:
NVM on the second one. i just figured it out.i didnt realize the parentheses was the x part of the triangle equation thing.

Problem #1
The least possible value of y would be equal to x since x<y.
Do this with the equation.
(x+y)(x+y)-(x-y)(x-y)
x^2+2xy+y^2 - (x^2-2xy+y^2)
This gives you 4xy>25
xy>25/4
y=5/2, since if x=y, (5/2)(5/2)=25/4

for the first use difference of squares

2x * 2y >/= 25

4xy = 25

x = y so that y is smallest possible
y= sqrt(25/4)

Problem 2

x=3, y=1

9+3+1=13

so then x=13, y=1

13^2 + 13 + 1 = 183

thanks guys. yeah i didnt realize that y could be the same as x.
