Help with Upper Division Transfer requirements

I’m an Upper Division Transfer student and I’m trying to figure out the graduation requirements so I can plan out my schedule.
Art/animation major. I’ve been referring to the Art/Animation – Studio Art AA-T degree road map, my degree progress report, and this document:

http://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/UDGE-PlanR.pdf

According to that document, I am required to take COMS 309 to fulfill the basic skills and IC requirement. Is COMS 309 really my only option for that graduation requirement? It says “At least two IC designated courses are required; one course in Basic Skills (usually met through Analytical Reading and Expository Writing)” so which classes are being referred to when it says “Analytical reading and expository writing”?

If someone could direct me to a page or website that truly tells me which courses are REQUIRED, rather than a vague list of upper division courses, that would be great. I have called my academic advisor twice but he was busy both times. I emailed him and he told me to schedule a meeting with a counselor. I live 3+ hours away from CSUN so its not very easy to do.

Hey Obliviouscat! Well as far as I know, I have the same major and student status as you. The general education basic skills and requirements weren’t mentioned by my academic advisor through email. My academic advisor emailed me a very detailed information and didn’t say anything about that. I just registered for whatever interesting general education classes there are. Maybe you can get it sorted out after your first semester?

Here’s a link to the IC requirement thing if you want to be careful
