help

Hey there everybody!

soooo... basically, I'm brand new to this site, so I'm not totally sure how everything here works yet, so if I'm going about this the wrong way, I apologize

BUT, I am in desperate need of some help.

here's the rundown: I'm going into my sophomore year of high school and frankly, I'm extremely uneducated about college prep. since I was told by several people that soph. year is time to start thinking about college, I figure I should get a mini head start.

last year, I was almost entirely an entirely straight A student (2 B+s over 4 quarters) and the classes I was in were all Pre AP/IB Prep classes, apart from gym. anyways, I was wondering a few things: do I do PSAT this year? AP exams? college fairs? learning about financial aid? getting involved in activities that'll look good on a college application? prepping for SAT?

also, a specific little area of concern for me is that I will be entering Algebra 2 this year, while SOOO many other kids will be entering pre-calc or above, which means if I stay on my current path, I'll be a level lower than a good chunk of my class, which won't look too impressive on applications (right?). SOOO...do I try to juggle 2 math classes next year? is there even such a thing as taking a class in summer that's NOT mandatory because of summer school?

I know this a lot to ask, but seriously, getting feedback on ANYTHING would help, because at the moment, i'm feeling veeery overwhelmed.

PSAT - def take on your soph year. It won’t count for anything, but it’s a good way to see where you are.

APs - Take them if you are in any AP classes.

College fairs - I never went to any *ever/i.

Prepping for SAT - Do it if you have time, but summer when you’re a rising junior is the most common.

To your Algebra 2 / math class concern: I was in the same boat as you this year. I was in Algebra 2 while the good majority of my class was in Pre-calculus or better. In my situation, I was able to take Pre-calculus over the summer at a community college, and will start my senior year in the same math class as most of my peers. However, this question is best directed toward your guidance counselor or Assistant Principal of Math. Random internet users won’t have any idea what the situation in your high school is like, so we can’t really help you there.
