As you may see from my previous posts, I am continuing to try and help friends find colleges that appeal to them instead of our current GC, who's response seems to be UCs, UCs, and more UCs. But once I asked her what she was actually looking for she said:

[18:59] Jeanie: study aboard, good education, small homesy environment, quirky but not hippie people, music & arts scene, job opportunities during & after college

I figured the best bet would be to go the LAC route.

4.03w, 3.77uw
1590 SAT
Taking SATIIs and ACT this month.

She wants to leave CA, but needs a school that is generous about need-based aid to do so. Wants a practical major, like international business or business. She also said she doesn't want a place that is too political one way or too intellectual or rigorous because she feels as though she would be left out.

Any assistance from CC would be welcome. Considering the SATs, I was a little stuck.

not many small LACs have majors like international business. typically you will find things like economics, government/IR, and those types of majors. More preprofessional majors are found at larger universities with more resources to offer those programs.

what would be another possible major choice? (i think it is goiing to be hard to find a LAC with international business as a major)

I would echo Knox, but add Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Something like 70% of their students study abroad. I'm not so sure about the music and arts scene outside of the school, though -- both Knox and Austin are in small-town settings.

Smith College is worth a look. They don't require SATs or ACTs for students from the US. She'd have to have other strong areas in her application.

Northeastern University in Boston has a great co-op program where students work, but I think they do look at SAT and ACT scores.
