Here Is My Unique Situation

Well I Live In Maryland. I Just Recently Graduated Class Of 010 And I Have No Choice But To Go To Community College Which Is Montgomery County Community College. My Overall GPA Sucks A Little Bit Over 2.0 Like a 2.3 And My SAT's Sucked Even More Every Category Was A Around The 300 Range... I Know.. Laugh At Me... I Would Too... So Heres My Plan

I Plan On Going To CC For ONE Semester And Getting A 3.5 Or Higher But My Goal Is A 3.5 And Transferring. Here Are The List Of Colleges I Want/Looking To Transfer To

Cornell U
Florida SU
Georgetown U
Rutgers Camden
Rutgers NB/Pscataway
Rutgers Newark
U Delaware
U Florida
U Miami
U Virginia

So Is This A Good Idea?? I Have Checked All The Requirements For These Schools And They Accept 12 Or More Credits Which Is Good.. I Know A Few In There Require More.. I Forgot.. But Should I Retake the SAT's??? And If Possible Are There Any Representatives From These Schools On This Forum That I Can Personally Talk To???

I Have Gave Up On Video Games Xbox 360 And My Ps3 Since May When I Realized They F'ed Me Up... So Know Im Heading To A Different Path.. Thats Why I Dont Knock The So Called Geeks No More.. When I See Them. I Even Look Up To Them Now... But Hey Life Goes On...

Im Open To Every OPTION So PLEAS POST YOUR OPINION I JUST WANT FEEDBACK Right Now...

Thanks

The fewer college units you have, the more they consider your high school record. They will also consider that one semester at a community college with a 3.5 GPA doesn’t necessary indicate you’ll be successful at a top-tier institution.

Bottom line, I’d plan on spending at least one year, and maybe two at community college, and be sure to get the highest grades possible. I’m at a CCC, and I think its way easier than HS. If you pull a 4.0 at a community college and have a decent number of units, you should have a shot at some good schools.

^ agreed. cornell, gtown, and virginia will be reaches no matter what, so i would really aim for a 3.7+ and not just a 3.5 to be competitive

Applying to these schools after one semester with a weak high school record is pointless. If you get a 3.5 or even a 4.0 this upcoming semester, you’re cum would still be low because you’ve already gotten a C average.

Wait. Unless you do, you’re high school record is going to be used HEAVILY and since you weren’t competitive as a HS student, there’s a very slim chance of getting into these schools now.

The longer you wait, the less emphasis is placed on your HS stats. Give it a year or two, at most, before you consider transferring.

And if you’re that impatient, retake the SAT ASAP. Since you want to get out of your CC earlier, 300s on your SAT will really, REALLY hurt your app, 60 credits or not.

Haha, you’re situation is not that unique. In fact, I was in the same mindset as you until I looked into everything. I’m a 2010 graduate with a uncompetitive GPA that has to go to CC just like you (trust me, I hate it just as much as you do). I learned after extensive research that only doing a semester of CC will not help you AT ALL. When you apply to all these colleges, you won’t have hardly any work to show your improvement, thus, they will be forced to look at your HS trans again (which won’t get you in).

Now here’s the hard part to swallow. As much as you hate the thought of attending community college, you’ll have a COMPLETELY BETTER chance of getting into the colleges you want if you do the full two years. The reason being is because you’ll have completed a lot more credits and will have a lot more work to show you’ve improved academically over the years.

Agree with what has been said and will add that if money is a concern, you need to rethink your list. OOS publics will not give you much financial aid and are expensive if you come from another state. You may have to primarily look at colleges in your home state.

Agreed. If you’re going to an OOS public, you might as well go to a private.

Judging from my personal experience (3.0 HS GPA, 2000 SAT), not even an entire year will necessarily get you into some of those schools. I was rejected from UVa after a 3.5 first semester and 4.0 second semester at CC. I would strongly recommend waiting at least a year, and more likely two years at your CC.

yeah, just to clarify, my advice is for waiting to apply for junior standing

i live like down the street from college park… i dont want to go there… because their claiming to be like an ivy school -__- which there not… i mean is the best school in MD but still… but even if i have a good essay it wont help?

and the CCC im going to have an agreement wit GMU, John Hopkins, UMD, Howard and a whole bunch of other MD/DC/VA school

Montgomery College has a special program for students who want to apply for transfer after only one year. You should meet with a counselor and ask them about the “Transfer Studies Certificate”. If you know what you want to major in, the counselors can help you find out about articulation agreements with other colleges and universities. Here is a link to some transfer information on the MC website [Counseling & Advising | Transferring](http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/edu/tertiary1.aspx?urlid=67)

i know that but i mean for OOS schools

The folks at MC send students all over the country. Pick up the phone. Call the campus that you are planning to attend. Make an appointment with the transfer counselors. They will be happy to show you where their students have transferred in the past few years.
