how competitive does it get to obtain one of the better internships (business)? is it based on grades mostly?

Coop isnt just entirely based on grades.

Because coop is a process that does involves interviews, you can have the best grades but no personality and not get that particular job. Just like with college admission, although a little less stringent, companies want to see the whole package.

great, i was worried they factor grades too heavily. would knowledge of finance help considerably? does the interview process consist of multiple stages like real jobs? also, is it difficult to do 1 coop and graduate in 4 years? thanks again

Hey, i have visited Drexel multiple times and am planning on attending the school. However, whenever i tell ppl (mostly kids) that i am going there they say that Drexel is really boring, no one parties, and kids generally dislike the environment there. Is this true?

yes, there are multiple stages. its a selection process, sometimes requiring 3 or more interviews to get a position.

When you initially enroll at Drexel, they will have you take classes like the Drexel Experience and another one that help get you up to speed in regards to skills that the jobs require. Pretty basic in nature, they are only 2 credits or so each.

It would be difficult to do coop and graduate in 4 years. Most people take 5 years with doing 2 semesters in coop. You can do better in your classes that way as well. As you are prob aware, Drexel is on the Trimester Schedule, so some majors require around 187 credits to graduate. If you take 15 credits a semester (reccomended), you can do it in 12 trimesters. This does not factor in the coop time off though. You can really squeeze it in, its possible, but just expect a higher courseload then most.

Drexel is not a party school, its true.

There are small parties, but nothing spectacular that you are going to find at other schools. Because of the nature of Drexels: trimesters, coop, etc, most kids arent on campus all year round. Friends come and go. Because of this, the greek scene isnt one to relay on, either are big parties.

off campus Philly has a lot going on. meet some kids from Upenn, and youll be fine.

ok thats good to know..im not really into huge parties. i just want to be able to relax with some friends and meet some ppl (girls, haha). The occasional big party would be nice, but i dont mind heading over to upenn for that.

What is your major, btw?

i was in lebow college of business, switched to bioscience, and am finishing up this semester and transferring.

im doing biomedical engineering next year. Were/Are you in the honors college?? Where are you transferring to?

biomed engineering is a descent major, i know a few kids in it. Lots of intersting classes you can take.

im trying to Transfer to U Pitt, i want something a little bigger and with a "normal" schedule. Plus, it gets kind of boring at Drexel on weekends, lots of people go home and stuff.

I was looking over the course catalog at Pitt and i like the 60 credits in liberal arts. I am jerked aroud now, as i have to finish 60 Gen Ed Requirments before going to Pitt, Pitt has a focus in Lib Arts, Drexel doesnt. So i need to finish those requirments first.

yea..im not worried about drexel's academic "scene" because i have met some of the professors and they all seem nice, interesting, if not at least competent. I'm really worried about getting bored on the weekends though. hopefully i can meet the right ppl and make my own stuff happen.

even if you find the right people, you wont see them in sophmore year due to coop, transfers, etc.

so be prepared for that!

bummer :-/...hopefully i get off waitlist for bucknell/lehigh/umich/cornell then. i wouldnt be going to drexel cept..for the fact that im "good but not good enough" for a lot of schools...hence my FOUR waitlists!!

well worst come to worst go to drexel with the intentions of transferring. I wish i would have done that when I first realized Drexel wasnt going according to plan, but i never listened to myself.

you might end up really liking it.

so youre going in the fall?

i didn't pay matriculation/housing yet..cuz ill definitely know about umich Monday. if i get waitlisted, then Drexel it is...if i get in, then im prlly going there. I should have already gotten into Umich, but my counselor didn't send in my forms b/c she FORGOT...so chances are i'm getting waitlisted, cuz my app was considered late by their standards. I'm sure ill be aight at drexel, if not, i will attempt a transfer. just have to keep my grades up.

Drexel academics arent too bad, the classes move really fast though. be sure to keep up with it!
