Hahaha. Great version of the song. I met an alum from the 80s and he still knew it by heart, so its got to be pretty old.

yo, I am not old! ;)

An alum from way back the '80's?? Its amazing you're still vertical! :)

Well, I was there wayyyyyyy back in the early 70's... and I never even knew there was any other version. Truly.

Traditional Version:

We are ever true to Brown,
For we love our college dear,
And wherever we may go,
We are ready with a cheer.
And the people always say,
That you can't outshine Brown men,
With their Rah! Rah! Rah! and their Ki! Yi! Yi!
And their B-R-O-W-N.

"Modern" Version:

We are ever true to Brown,
For we love our college dear,
And wherever we may go (where are we going?)
We are ready with a beer.
And the people always say (what do they say?)
That you can't out drink Brown men (and women!)
With a scotch and rye and a whiskey dry,
And a B-O-U-R-B-O-N

I must say that the traditional version sucks. What the heck is a Ki Yi Yi? If you're going to just make up syllables, make up something better!

I believe the "modern version" is actually the traditional version. Weren't fight songs all drinking songs originally?

btw, it's amazing how the band sounds like a real band in that clip. The band now is kind of...bleh.

"KI YI YI" is the ancient cheer to rally the men of Brown when Harvard stands but inches from the goal, urging them to rise up and repel the Crimson invaders!

when was the modern version done? when I was at Brown (graduated in 79-- so even older than the alum from the 80s!) the modern version was the one I was taught.

my mommy and daddy knew the brown version... lol, actually i was singing it all weekend at ADOCH... drunk as a skunk on top of a lightpole (dont know if any of the rest of you saw me.. but if you did, ;))....

i was trying to teach it to people, but i have trouble even getting the octave right. im glad it's online somewhere now.
