So I applied to the USC school of cinematic arts about a month ago... just trying to gauge what my chances are for not only getting into the school but also perhaps getting one of the trustee/presidential scholarships. I consider my grades to be decently high, especially for a film student, so I'm wondering if I might have an easier time getting one of the scholarships because the film department is handing mine out. Anyway...heres my info

I'm from Floridian middle class family. I am graduating from the #11 high school in the nation (was #6 last year... darn freshmen haha).

APs:
AP Human Geography: 5
AP American History: 4
AP English Language: 5
AP English Literature: don't have scores yet
AP American Government: don't have scores yet
AP BC Calculus: don't have scores yet
AP Macro Economics: don't have scores yet

All the rest of my classes, (besides the electives) are Honors.

Other important info:
Editor-In-Chief of School Newspaper- "The Torch"
Co-Founder of a student-run film production company "5th Click Films"
Teacher of my high school's T.V. production I and II courses (unofficial, but confirmed by my recommendation from the "teacher" them self)
WEB Leader for 6 years
Directed/Produced a nationally broadcast video about my high school (Newsweek)
Directed/Produced a nationally distributed charity video for Habitat for Humanity
Won 1st place-- "Best Director" at the Youth Film Showcase division of the 8th largest independent film festival
Was selected as a HOBY State Ambassador for a leadership conference
Was selected again as a WLC Ambassador for a world leadership conference
Over 80 hours of community service with various associations

In addition to that, I feel that my essays were relatively strong-- both for regular USC admission and for the film department. I took a couple weeks writing them and making sure they were good. Anyway, chance me please? Thanks!

EDIT: I figured I should mention that my GPA is probably going to drop slightly in my 7th semester, but I don't know if they look at that. I may receive one B this semester in an AP. :(

no. it's because most of us are applying as well, and we can't really chance someone because we have nothing to base it on except past stats.
but with your high grades, highly selective major, and list of accomplishments, i think that you would be accepted. but i have no idea since i am applying as well.
and i have no idea about schols though because i have no idea what their criteria for that is. if it's mainly sat scores, no offense, but they'd probably want higher scores.
if it's entire body of work, then you'd be fine. but then again, i wouldn't really know anything about that.
; )
good luck !

No, you have a great shot at entering the school, but I'm not too sure about how they select the big scholarships. We have very similar stats, 'cept I applied to engineering. Good luck!

Hey thanks, I was getting a little worried there. I suppose we're all just waiting for the next 30 days or so to be over to see if we get accepted/invited.

I don't know how your "decently high" GPA could be any better :) Your test scores are right in there and your ec's look good. I think you are not getting much response here because (besides the fact that everyone is busy with the holidays) you are the kind of applicant who comes on here with a 4.0UW GPA and is all concerned while other borderline applicants are rightly MORE concerned. You are right in there with others who received scholarships so it will depend on how your essays and ec's catch the eye of the adcoms.

Remember that this forum is just a group of random people who REALLY don't know and we can only guess- but I'd say you'll get in but the scholarship is in question.

I think you'll probably be accepted to USC, but I suspect the test scores could keep you from being offered a big scholarship. The SCA scholarship recipients that I know of personally had pretty high SATs, but it's possible they'll see your ECs as compensating for your scores.

Whether you'll even be admitted to the film school, as opposed to USC, is very difficult to predict. On paper, you have what they're looking for, but so do thousands of other kids. Having made films will not guaranty admission, but if you presented yourself as a creative, intelligent and motivated person - and you get great recommendations - they might take you. Your chances also depend on which program you applied to. You do realize that getting into Production is harder than getting in to Harvard, right?
