I’m currently a junior, but wanted to get some opinions regarding applications early. I’ll list my stats and my GPA shouldn’t change at all this coming year as I’m taking the same amount of AP and honors. Maybe can boost my ACT one or two points by application time.
STATS:
3.91 UW
4.24 W
30 ACT
1450 SAT
ECs: Student body leader, NHS (officer), Key Club (officer), Amnesty International, New Student Network (officer) and Power of the Pen.
Service hours: 150+
APs: 3 (only a rising junior)
Honors: 4 (again rising junior)
Major/minor:
Major - English
Minor - Political science
Schools I’m interested in:
Kenyon College
NYU
Berkeley
Georgetown (reach, but I’m praying)
Florida State
Cornell (ED - most likely)
Boston University
What is your Home state and are all these schools affordable? So far, you are on the right track and look like a competitive applicant.
FYI: If you are out of state for UC Berkeley, expect to pay $60K/year to attend with no financial aid.
I have 200k saved up already, so it should be almost paid for. I highly doubt any financial aid will be provided since my family makes 500k per year… My home state is Ohio.
Jeez, 500 K nbd. Anyway, Cornell will be quite a reach. Your ACT score is pretty low compared to averages at such a prestigious school. But if its truly your dream school and you show your passion in your essays, who knows? You’ve got good rigor so that is a plus, and you got a good amount of volunteer work
Cornell is always a reach, but if you raise your ACT to 33 or SAT to 1500, it’ll definitely help you. I’m not sure if this is your final list, but you should add Ohio State or another safety in. I have similar stats (Same UW GPA, SAT is a bit higher), and people have told me that Ohio State is a nice safety, especially since you’re instate.
Kenyon looks like a good match for you academically (English + poli sci), but you’ll increase your chances there if you make a concerted effort to reach out to the school and express interest.
Your current test scores are low for schools like Cornell, UCB, and G-town. You need to work on bringing them up.
