Hey India, thanks for the free money! :)

Indian gov't awards Penn $2M grant | The Daily Pennsylvanian

Great news to start the day. Thanks, India!

On behalf of the entire nation, you are most welcome!

I’m sooooooooooooo ****ed X-(

Gary, there is no reason to be angry. The govt would rather spend 2Mil on UPenn than open a quality LAC in India. Its what can be expected from a govt which is made up of convicted criminals.

Funny thing is that they did it for ‘Indian studies’ when the same money might have supported the studies of thousands of Indian kids.

EXACTLY. i got so excited when i saw this post. what a let down.

Comes as no surprise for a University dubbed “University of Pennsylv-asia”. Though I’m no big fan of Penn, personally, they do love their South Asians and their efforts towards that end, both academic and beyond, are pretty great. I’m sure this had something to do with the Ambanis’ public love for Penn (ironically it’s a place both brothers support) though. Also, it’s important to note, the grant is to further scholarship in Indology/ South Asian Studies primarily, and not necessarily for financial aid.

I think one of the Ambani brothers is a trustee at Penn. He might have been pulling a few strings for this to happen.

Also, I don’t get the obsession that Penn has with the marwari community. Nearly EVERY Indian that I know of who goes to Penn/went to Penn/has serious dreams about attending Penn is a marwari. Its weird. I think Wharton should open a campus in Jaipur or sth :).

Haha, thebigcheese, you’re so right! I think the Marus love Penn because of the Wharton element. Anything for the study of big rokda. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mukesh is the trustee, or some fancier title may have been conferred upon him. He has a reservation of around five-ten seats a year, that he distributes either amongst his relatives or RIL employees’ children. He also has a similar system at Stanford, which is his alma mater. Neither of his twins study at Penn though. Anil is the Wharton alumnus and his elder son joined Wharton last year.

I’ve heard loads about ‘the Ambani kid’ from my friend there. Apparently, the deal included an auditorium and what not. He’s a wasted jerk really.

‘the Ambani kid’ as in Anmol, Anil’s son? Yeah, he is quite the spoilt brat. Oh well, not that Mukesh’s elder son is any better. It’s kinda like George Bush going through Yale or Bilawal Zardari going through Oxford. Just the way the world works.

Marus and rokda, the epic tale.

What do the Ambani kids have to worry about anyway. Their dads will get them into any bloody university in the world. They dont even need to work. At current interest rates, if they put all their money into simple fixed deposits, they will still earn more than a 100 crore rupees per annum. They can party all night long in a golden yacht and drink shots off Gisele Bundchen’s naked ass and it wont even cost them a thing. Some kids get all the fun dont they?

Maru in the house :D

And I DON’T love Wharton!!
