HEY QUESTBRIDGE '09! Where ya going?

Bubbe, aww, well here’s another Questbridge Finalist response, if it makes you feel any better (I found out about this thread through my Google Alerts, which is now aimed at Questbridge. I just heart this program).

I was accepted to my number one choice through the college match process. I’m not really 100% sure what happened to the schools that I ranked underneath it, though I did get a nice letter from Pomona telling me I was deferred and encouraging me to apply for Regular Decision (they might have mentioned ED II, I don’t really remember).

I only applied to four schools through College Match because my cousin-the-admission-officer thought I might be accepted to schools lower down on my list that I originally had listed, while all I really wanted to do was be accepted at my number ranked school or #2. The irony of it all, is all of the schools I listed were statistically harder to get into then my number one, but that’s just where I really wanted to go.

Anyway, it all worked out in the end. And it was such a relief not to kill myself with college applications in December, because I knew where I was going for sure by December 1.

EDIT After rereading the thread following my post, definitely agree with secshisuhee. It might seem self-explanatory with the binding agreement, but only apply to schools you REALLY want to go to. I know at one point in the fall of my senior year I was feeling kind of hopeless and just wanted to go anywhere that would take me without being in a mountain of debt, but if you’re good enough to be a finalist, you’re good enough to go to a school you personally love.

So if I applied to say, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT for the Match, and wasn’t matched, would I still be able to forward the application Early Action/Decision for these schools? (except for Princeton, which doesn’t have early)
Or would I have to forward to Regular Decision (meaning I have 2 chances total- Match+RD, instead of 3- Match, EA, RD)
Thanks

I know some people last year did not match with Yale or MIT and those schools (& QB) allowed them to also try for EA/SCEA. They had, like, a three day window or something like that in which to resubmit under those programs. Then if they did not get accepted during that round they, obviously, could still leave their apps on file for regular.

Princeton? As you said, they only have RD. Stanford? Don’t know.

^Yale didn’t allow students to do that (meaning, you could not apply through questbridge match program and if you are not matched apply SCEA). However, MIT and a few others did (meaning, you can apply to MIT through the match round and if you are not accepted, you can still apply EA–forward your app to that round).

I’ll post my results tomorrow…i’m really tired right now.

Can anyone explain “Questbridge?” I’m a parent. I guess while my kids were growing up, I was out of touch with college stuff. How does one qualify for this “Questbridge?” It sounds like something too good to be true.

Thank you to everyone for sharing information.
Your ‘help’ really helps!

Plainsmam: I am trying to learn/understand about Questbridge … I think the best place to start is: [QuestBridge Home Page](http://www.questbridge.org/)

CC parents and students have been more than helpful to me. I really appreciate all the ‘input’ CC affords.

My grandchild has been pro-active with the Questbridge ‘quest’…
I am trying to learn about Questbridge so I can understand the ‘speak’ to be an informed listening ‘ear’ only. It’s up to the student to do the work!

Good Luck!

My results, as promised:

Accepted (via Questbridge): Amherst College, Bowdoin College, University of Chicago, Emory University, Haverford College, Northwestern University, Oberlin College, Pomona College, Swarthmore College, Vassar College, Wesleyan University, Williams College, Claremont McKenna College

Rejected (via Questridge): Yale University, MIT, Columbia University, University of Penn, Rice University, Stanford University

I was not matched during the match process, but I think I did very well with acceptances during the Regular Decision round. I would definitely recommend anyone applying to college through questbridge!

Ultimately, after being accepted at a few other non-Questbridge schools, I chose to attend Northwestern next year–a partner college. I was and still am very grateful to QB for the opportunity, but I was recently accepted off of the waiting list at Brown University and will attend there instead.

The application is tough, arduous, and vexing at times, but just keep reminding yourself of the possibilities! QB opened up so many doors for me and gave me the opportunity to go to many great schools to get a fine education! But remember, you have to put in the hard work in high school before QB can work its magic on you…so don’t just expect automatic acceptances! Good luck future QB applicants!
