So I thought I'd start a thread to see where everyone from the '09 QuestBridge thread has ended up. We suffered through a LOT, and now it's time for the results! And we all want to know if those XXX sweatpants are ever coming out.... Feel free to add in your story, if you'd like--this doesn't have to be just stats. And it might be helpful to folks just starting the QuestBridge saga to see how it turns out, too. So, if you want, include the schools you were accepted to and whether or not they were QB.

Please help me understand - when QB (for Questbridge) is marked after acceptance (on this thread) - or waitlisted or whatever - does that mean a Questbridge REGULAR DECISION Application was used?? (because NO Match?)

I understood if you were a Questbridge Match for 1 of their schools (except the non-binding) you got a Full Ride & you HAD to accept.

Sligh_Anarchist & 4th House - Whoopie! (I’m assuming FULL RIDES??)

I know both schools very well - you will enjoy your 4 years.

Bubbe, Princeton is non-binding in match, although S, as previously stated, was accepted regular, not match, which either way makes the issue of “full ride” (4 years guaranteed free) moot. For P’ton, need is re-evaluated each year, even for QB match kids. Despite all that, the package was wonderful; better than that of any other school.

Also, there really is no QB regular decision (only) app. Their app is their app, period. If you don’t get matched, or if you choose not to apply for match, they forward their app to schools, although many also require supplements and some even require supplements as well as Commons. When applying read the particulars for each school you are considering. It’s complicated and yet it’s not – the answers are all there.

I’m following this thread because my GS will be a Questbridge Finalist (Hopefully - I think he has an excellent chance!!)

There is a lot of ‘angst’ about how to apply to college as my GS will need substantial FA.

I’m trying to understand the logic in schools accepted or rejected admission…looks SO lopsided!!!

SO many (with fantastic Stats) are denied MATCH that it may not pay to even try for MATCH, but just apply Regular Decision (using the Questbridge application) - especially if you are not first generation & minority?
Maybe forget about a ‘dream reach’ and pick ‘2nd tier’ for the listing of Questbridge colleges? Will this help w/Match??

Watching for more posts - decision will have to be made by Fall

The very best of GOOD LUCK to all & Thanks for posting --it’s a help!

Thanks, Bubbe. My QuestBridge financial aid package is a ‘full ride,’ although as 4th House mentions, it is re-evaluated every year. But I doubt my financial situation will be changing much over the next four years.

Disappointed that only 4 Questbridge Finalists replied to this thread!

Thank you for sharing to those that did reply - and very best of luck in your great school choices (acceptances!) Awesome, awesome accomplishments !!!

It would be a BIG help to know how others faired in the college admissions quest…

As a Questbridge Finalist -

Did you ignore applying thru Questbridge Match and just apply to 1st choice school EA? (mentioning of course, on your app. that you were a Questbridge Finalist?)
(What was the result?)

Did you apply thru Questbridge Match choosing 8 partner schools?
(What was the result?)

Did you apply thru Questbridge Match & choose only the ‘non-binding’ partner schools ?
(What was the result?)

If no Match - To which schools did Questbridge forward your application for Reg. Decision -??
(What was the result?)

If no Match and ALSO denied admission Re: Reg. decision to ANY Questbridge partner schools - To which ‘outside’ schools did you apply? ie. Harvard, WashU etc.
(What was the result?)

I was a QB finalist that applied through the match to yale, penn, uchicago, rice, and emory. was not matched. my app was forwarded ea to chicago, where i was deferred. i applied to the above schools for rd, plus johns hopkins, stanford, claremont mckenna, tulane, gwu, and usc. i was accepted to rice (attending with awesome finaid), emory, tulane, and gwu. was rejected at yale, uchicago, usc (?!), and stanford. was waitlisted at penn, jhu, and claremont mckenna. my stats were 3.9 gpa uw, 2200 sat plus decent/good EC’s. As i stated in another thread, i would recommend becoming a finalist but not going through the match process, and then having your app forwarded to schools for EA. that way you get all of the advantages of qb plus having extra essays without the disadvantages of the binding part/no ea apps in the match round. i think i made a more detailed stats/chances thread a while back if youre interested in looking at that. hope that helped! i am very happy with how everything turned out for me!

Did you apply thru Questbridge Match choosing 8 partner schools?
I applied to three schools in the Match Process- Yale, Princeton, and Stanford

Did you apply thru Questbridge Match & choose only the ‘non-binding’ partner schools ?
Yes - I didn’t get into any of them

If no Match - To which schools did Questbridge forward your application for Reg. Decision -??
Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Northwestern, Amherst, MIT,

I got waitlisted at Princeton, Accepted at Northwestern, Amherst, and MIT.
I’ll be headed to Cambridge in the fall :]

By the way Bubbe, reading your post from earlier, it is NOT advantageous to try to do the Match process for what you call “2nd tier” schools. Unless you are matched with MIT, Stanford, Yale, or Princeton, the match is BINDING. As in, you are not allowed to say no!

I advise that you list the schools that you want to go to on your early application (if you want to do the Match process), keeping in mind that if you get into one of ones that are binding, you must go.
