Hi! A-levels or APs? Diploma holders to top ranking colleges?

Hi CCs!
I am a fresher here and hoping to have a great time in CC forums.

I am doing a 3-year diploma presently in a polytechnic here in Singapore and will be graduating in march 2009. Planning to apply to top ranking colleges in 2009. For now, i dont have anything like A-levels or APs to my name except a 10th std(India), GCE O-level and a diploma in Multimedia and Infocomm technology in 2009.

I am going to take A-levels and APs as a private candidate in the next two years (A-level registration period:12 mar - 24 mar). But after reading so many what-are-my-chances-at-X, i realized that many people dont have any A-levels but only tons of APs and extra curriculars.

Do you think it is a waste spending time on A-levels and i can use that time on APs and ECs?

I e-mailed Harvard asking whether they accpet 3-Diploma holders to Harvard college and for a reply i got a list of Harvard Graduate schools and their contact info! (Harvard graduate schools need a 4-bachelor's degree) Does anyone understand what that meant?

Thanks for caring enough to read the whole post:)

A-level is much better because it is more widely recognised and A-level can fullifill the requirements of highschool aswell and it also gives advanced standing whereas AP only gives advanced standing and it cannot fullfill the highschool requirements. But if possible you should try for IB diploma. That is the best practice for the college and in many places it is prefered over GCE.
Best of luck.

thanks albhya2000. I am going to dig out info about IBs and how harder they are than A-levels. More opinions would certainly help.

Doesn't a polytechnic diploma count for anything in a college admission process?

why do i have to login atleast a 10 times before i could post anything?
