then,is there any one know about this college? How about it’s academic comparied to Luther college’s in IA also?My D is interested in this college since it is urban location.

I take it you are not an American citizen? Cedar Rapids is a small town. It is not an “urban location” by any stretch of the imagination.

As Pizzagirl said, this is not ‘an urban location.’ Nice campus, 90% white and nearly all from the midwest. A large contingent of Asian international students judging from a stroll through the library. Nice collection of Marvin Cone’s artwork on display in the library, which is why we were there.

Luther College is absolutely NOT in an urban location - Coe far exceeds it in that aspect. Lots and lots and lots of cornfields.

Cedar Rapids has a population of around 125,000. It’s small city, but you’d be hard pressed to call the area “urban”. You would, however, be able to find things to do off-campus. Cedar Rapids isn’t too far from Iowa City and the U of I. Decorah, where you’ll find Luther college, has a population of just under 8000. It’s definitely a small town. Academically? Neither are big schools, so you won’t find specialty majors, but you should expect a solid eduation from either.

Thanks for everyone’s helping .At least I know Coe is a nice college in academic and is located in a small nice city. U.S. news describes the setting of Coe is “urban”.

^^Well if you live in a town of 2500 or in a rural area…then 125,000 IS urban. If you live in an urban area over a million, then 125,000 is small. It’s all in the perspective LOL!

I drive by Coe College frequently and it is adjacent to the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids. It may have gotten the “urban” depiction because it nestles up against an elevated section of Interstate 380 which cuts through the downtown and it is only a couple of blocks from the heart of downtown. The Quaker Oats plant is in view on the other side of the interstate. Like most cities of 125,000, Cedar Rapids has a bit of a skyline. It is definitely not small town Iowa. I live in small town Iowa and I go to Cedar Rapids to shop and eat at one of two Indian restaurants or a Vietnamese restaurant (the latter is within walking distance of the college). Aside from Quaker Oats, the industry in town is largely white collar and technologically focused - Rockwell Collins is the big employer and has a relatively young, highly educated and diverse workforce. The campus itself is attractive. By contrast, Luther College is in a genuinely tiny town and nestled up against rivers, cliffs, etc. Aging hippies and New Agers populate Decorah along with umpteenth generation Scandinavians.
