major intend to take in future: Econs/Banking

Family contribution: <8k

other schools i also intend to apply to:
dream: grinnell, middlebury, vassar,
reach: macalester, bates, ,bard conncoll, dickinson, gettysburg, F&M, whitman
safety: kalamazoo, hendrix, wittenberg, hampshire

I choose these schools because i've heard these are quite generous in terms of aid to foreign students. I'm most concerned with 2 problems: my low critical reading score and my high financial need.
so what do you think?
thanks

Everything seems to be solid except for your critical reading score.
If you can raise that score some and add some more community service, you have a a very strong chance at getting in.

but if i’m not wrong, Trinity is SAT optional, isn’t it?

Correct! SAT is optional. The college asks you to submit at least one test score from SAT reasoning, SAT subjects and Toefl. I am a incoming Trin freshman and an international myself. From what I have heard and saw, most international students admitted by Trinity have generally SATI test scores around 2000 and many of them have SATII and TOEFL scores. “SAT optional policy” is the most basic requirement because liberal arts schools don’t want a single test score to judge a student. My advice is that if you wanna increase your chances, you’d better take SATI, SAT II, TOEFL, with impressive essays and abundant activities.

Actually international students do have some leniency when it comes to CR scores, especially if your prospective major does not rely on English proficiency. I know international engineering students who got in with 800 Math and 5sth in CR. They did have 800s in SATII Math I and II as well. You have great A-level grades too, so I would say you have a good shot at Trinity.

But what do you guys think of him getting financial aid??? Does he have a shot for a full ride???

don’t know what their finaid policy for internationals is, but 8K contribution
is very low, probably a finaid reject. sat scores are also a little low. Yeah,
probably not getting in.

If he were to apply ED, family contribution shouldn’t be much of a factor even if he’s international. I can’t say how the present economic climate could affect Trinity’s
finaid policies though.

8k Family Contribution is a huge disadvantage. I know an international student with SAT score of 2200, and family contribution of 5k got rejected.

That should not discourage you, because I know international students with lower SATs and lower family contribution get accepted. However, these were ED applicants strong in other areas. Competition tends to be fierce for regular applicants with low family contribution because internationals do not qualify for state loans and grants; all aid is provided by the college, and funds are limited.
