<p>Look over Oberlin College very carefully. See if you can imagine taking their 9 hours of Quantitative Proficiency (QP) courses for the distribution, rather than having a required Math 101 kind of expectation. My D handled her math gappiness (as you demonstrate) by taking courses such as “Musical Acoustics,” “Architecture” and Computer Science, accumulating enough “QP” points that she never had to take the usual College Math department course to satisfy her 9 credit distribution requirement.</p>
<p>If you like Oberlin, devote time to write a superb “Why Oberlin” essay. Don’t waste your time or theirs applying if it’s a throw-off or “maybe” kind of application. If, however, you can assure them that you understand their fabulous resource offering (albeit in Ohio) and show how you can contribute to the campus community, it would be a viable application based on your high scores in the Humanities. You can also level with them in your essay about your thoughts on your gappy scores.</p>
