Is it really that safe to put listening/watching/ reading all of a certain person’s music/movie/book, because what if the admission person is biased against that person lol. (this is not intended to go against the “ive read all of” of “ive seen all of,” im just curious because if its not id like to put it on mine too :] ) (oh and if this was answered before im sorry i just skipped to the 14th page haha)

Also, can i put down going to the gym 3 times a week for 2-3 hours at a time? for 2 years?
oh and also free peer tutoring?? :]

I have been showing magic tricks since I was 7 (started off with REALLY basic ones obviously). I specialize in closeup magic with a special concentration on card magic ( I once did a stage show [stage magic], but it didn’t appeal to me; I can be much more personal and interactive in a closeup setting ). This may sound like a good use of my ‘unstructured time’ I guess, right?

Yeah, I think magic tricks count. It’s a hobby right? It’ll make you interesting, although it’s not like the admissions people will be flipping over there chairs to let you in soley based on the fact that you have an interesting hobby, lol.

This is a great thread-CCers are really so much more interesting than their ‘where can I get in with these stats and boring EC threads’ would lead you to believe.

Think about this from an admissions officer’s perspective: You have just seen 50 applications from editors of school newspapers, presidents of the Spanish Club, captains of the soccer team…and then you get to the applications where someone has taught themselves Greek for some interesting reason, is world-ranked in their particular game, breeds parakeets for fun and profit, or is hoping someday to publish their book of mendhi designs. Who would you want to talk to? Who would you want to admit to your school?

I’m a moderator on Runescape there are only like 5k out of the 10 years since beta arrived The game has approximately 10 million active accounts, over 130 million registered accounts… i guess that can show responsibility? possibly?

My daughter is a great student and tester and does a little bit thru the high school (debate, newspaper) but mostly, she is a fantastic quilter/knitter - not kidding, her stuff is gorgeous. How that will play next year on applications is anyone’s guess. But she’s done her own thing and we are so proud of her for that. She’s fit but doesn’t like “sports”; likes music but didn’t want to “do” music, etc. She’s a second kid and we just let her chart her own pathway. Will the sky fall if she doesn’t get into a top school? Nope. She’s just fine. Did the stuff that interested her . . .

I’ve seen every episode of Bones, Family Guy, Big Bang Theory, Old Christine, Judging Amy, The Nanny, and a couple more.

I also go to the opera whenever anything’s showing - and have probably 400 opera CDs and DVDs in my house - is that a bad thing to mention, especially if I’m applying for need-based aid lol! xD

What about co-organizing a french culture night that was really a combo of
fundraiser sit down bread/salad/pasta/dessert dinner, 2 hour, multi talent variety show (campus showcase), with decorations (ie; piano in the middle of room with spotlights, christmas lights and lanters indoors, a canopy made of gossamer, backdrops, wall covers, etc.)
this involved planning, organizing, directing, executing all committees (food, decor, publicity)

a caterer/ parent said that our decorations were “as good as some adult professionals”

all with a teacher advisor who mostly stayed out of the way and several dedicated members, as well as a volunteer group
made more than 1500, with about 200-300 people in attendance.

its not really academic, although it is french club, it was an annual tradition fundraiser, and it was more of an exercise in organzing than actual french stuff, we did nod to french culture with the theme and some acts…
and 20 percent to haiti relief:]

i know that was a lot of info and i tried to be specific because this was KIND of unique, in the sense that it was a fundraiser like many kids put on, but this was a lot more professional and stuff…how could i say that in a short way, haha

so it’s like club/french/fundraiser/charity/leadership?
how does one classify this?

umm so regarding college applications…
is it required to put in how many hours of volunteer and how many years you have been in a club… or what? i want to apply to UCSD (if that changes a thing)… thanks…

Spatel: Its not like you HAVE to put down volunteer hours lol, but why wouldn’t you…

Anyways, I’m taking the sports med class and that requires 50 hours of observation/work inthe athletic training room or at games, does that count?

I am a master at copying axl rose and freddy mercury (atleast i like to think so), even their orgasmic moves and dance. dunno how to put that in the application though… LOL

my kid does a rock university program (NOT thru a university!!), and is an awesome singer of blues and classic rock. The kids have gigs every 3 months. Is this something that talking or writing about might help her stand out? (she is not planning to major in music or vocal performance.)

um,mm…my parents are in a band and everyone in my family is musically-inclined…however i am not so much o_O is this something to include?
also how does one show volunteer hours? and whats considered volunteering?
sure ive helped with soup kitchens but i do political work, nhs, school board…is this volunteering too?

I collect Swarovski rhinestone flatbacks and rhinestone clothes/shoes/phone case, and I have taken many requests from my friends and embellish whatever they want. Does that count? :P
