"Hidden" Extracurriculars--What are Yours?

I’m a nice person?

I spent two years in a leadership development program.

The first year others helped me recover from problems @ home like drugs and what not, and the second year I was the one giving back and helping others out, day in and day out, because I lived there. I feel like if any admissions office actually knew about what I have done, it would change things alot, but I find it hard to describe in E.C.s, although I have ones that go along with it, its not like I can put 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Any advice on getting that kind of thing threaded in?

Much of my stuff is just practical things. My location limits my ECs, not to mention that I’ve been told specifically that I will not be doing them this year.

But I know plumbing basics, how to field dress a deer, how to handle someone who is having a seizure, how to keep a wood stove burning all night, how to log trees, helped manage medicine for family members, etc.

When I do catch a break I like to fiddle with Unreal Editor, and I’m writing out a machinima I hope to produce and make into a charity during college. Not exactly things I can put down on my application.

I’m about to start a webcomic that’s updated weekly, i wonder how unique that is…?

I was once ranked in the top 1000 in the world for NCAA Football 10 on the 360.

I can tell you the nickname of any FBS college football team and name the conference that it is in.

I’m a self proclaimed college football connoissuer.

Is attending Church School an EC?

I guess it can be one mdh625 … it’s ‘extra’ to some people. And then on the other hand, it’s life to others.

I absolutely died laughing when I read this. I’m mad that no one else seemed to catch it.

That they were one hit wonders … ?
OH

I have finished 5th and 3rd place in my school’s annual Pun-off during my freshman and sophmore years. I plan to do so again the remaining two years.

Reading every single Agatha Christie book is an EC??
I’ve read every single book by her… I finished long long ago.
Do you seriously think I should put this on my app??? It wasn’t that important to me, I just wanted something to read. I think it would be strange to put it on my app personally, it’d be like “Eating cereal” or something else that doesn’t require effort.

I’ll ask again… Would one put these in the “additional info” section of the app?

I do tech-y stuff for my school. The people who also do know that, but everybody else doesn’t really. That’s cool… in a way.

I’m a librarian.

Would you put these at the very end, or closer to the beginning? It seems like something that could give you a huge edge in individuality.

Can skateboarding be used as an EC?
I mean it’s too late for me now, already in college, but I never mentioned it in my applications because I was somewhat embarrassed. My parents tell me everyday that they hate skateboarding and that society frowns upon it, even though it used to be a passion of mine.
So should people list skateboarding or no?

That’s awesome man. And notre dame fighting irish football 4ever!

Starcraft II Diamond League?
… It’s like being Varsity Starcraft!
