i want to know my chances at columbia fu foundation and cornell.
thank you:)

Ok. Just purely looking at your stats and ecs. very good gpa. That would probably beat almost everyone apply to Ivies and you have a very low SAT. Cornell and Columbia are possible, depending on how they look at your school and weight your GPA. They may or may not consider a lot of those courses as honors. Engineering is easy to get into at the Ivies so I think you may have a chance.

As I told the other korean from your school, international applicants are extremely tricky since you do not know how good their extracurriculars are since they are unheard of in the US, but for extracurriculars you seem to be doing well.
"model student of school" <-- That sounds pretty good.

You are borderline based upon your SAT I CR score and your rank (top 3%). In my view, you will be declined at Columbia and accepted at Cornell, but you are close for both schools and the decisions on both could go either way.

Write a good essay, speak to your strengths and passion, and have good recomendations--that's all you can do--then hope for the best.

you probably have a chance getting into engineering.

calcruzer hit the nail on the head

ehh...those two 520s dont look pretty...if you get them up to at LEAST 650, you'll have a much better shot at both columbia and cornell

i think i will do better november...(i should...). any way thank you.^^

I almost never agree with Calcruzer and this is another example. There are too many Asian internationals with better scores applying to these schools.

Cornell's engineering is the best in the ivies and therefore tougher to get into than Columbia.

Cornell engineering better than Columbia's? NIMHO

I'm not basing it on my opinion, its pretty widely held that Cornell has the most reputable engineering program in the ivy leagye. Almost all college rankings put them at the top in engineering. That said, the Columbia engineering program is also really, really good.

I'm a white female from the suburbs of Philly.

Rank: N/A (estimated top 5% of class)- class size 260
SAT: CR 670, Math 680, Writing 730
II's: Math 700, Lit 670
GPA: 3.9
School is a top public school in PA

EC's: Intern for a State Representative (helped with outreach to constituents), director of high school affairs for Sestak for Congress, Model UN, Newspaper op-ed editor, President of Young Democrats at high school, Varsity girls ice hockey team, model congress, student council, National Honors Society

AP's: Bio, Gov't (5 on test),Stat, Economics, English
Honors included a gifted interdisciplanary course in 11th grade- American lit and history combined
took most competitive classes (advanced, honors, AP) but not FL
FL: Spanish

Awards: Cornell Book Award, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award

Summer: graduated from Yale's government camp (yeah I'm a loser), took a class at Brown and one at Penn State, also volunteered with a State Representative (40 hrs a week before senior yr, all summer)

I'm applying to Penn ED, I am very interested in their Philosophy, Politics, and Economics joint major. What are my chances???
Thanks!!

Raise your SAT's and I think you'll have a very good shot at columbia and cornell engineering. BTW, you have a great GPA and EC's. Also, make sure your essays are strong. Nameless1, just make your own thread.

I am not sure… well, if you are attending a high school in Korea, that means you are an international students. you know, these days, Chinese and Indian international students are increasing dramatically. getting into prestigious colleges is becoming really hard.

some prestigious high schools in Korea has a very high SAT scores and many good AP scores. They also have fantastic extracurricular activities.

If you write a good essay, the story can change, but I think you should really work to increase your scores. Columbia Fu foundation is less tough than Cornell engineering school, but Cornell Engineering is REALLY HARD to get in.

To be honest I don’t think your sat scores are that much of a problem (800M) and lower cr and writing. It’s probably just a language barrier
