High Point University Scholars Weekend 2020

3plusme, Bethybear, and catherine: If you wouldn’t mind, can you specify how much more merit money HPU gave you not including the $3000 for honors or fellows programs?

Bethybear: I just noticed you did that already, thank you.

My D has been anxiously awaiting her scholarship/financial information. Today a big packet arrived…a magazine and a letter from some student!? What the heck? So if we haven’t gotten anything now, is there nothing coming? Her email said Honors acceptance but we get some random marketing materials. So confused.

@Sound 6 - we got the same magazine and the next day our scholarship packet arrived. Hopefully you will get yours today.

No worries. She got 13 thousand plus 3 for Science fellow and a travel learning grant of $1000.00.

So your original merit scholarship was increased by $13,000?

My son got got an additional $5K plus $3K for Honors. This makes the total of $18K for a net price of $35,518. Plus the free masters if you find that valuable. He has a 4.0 unweighted with a 1330, class president, varsity athlete, etc. That puts them in the race but a few grand behind Pitt (we are Pa residents so they are at $31,500) JMU Honors program with a net price of $33,746 and right with Dusquene at $35,504

That’s great. My D got an additional $4K plus $3K for the Natural Sciences fellows so she’s up to $17,000 now. Last year HPU averaged just over $13K per student in grants so there’s always a chance for that when financial aid packets come out.

We’re dropping HPU. It looks like St. Joe’s in Philly. By the way, we were able to negotiate another $3,500 out of them and it didn’t require a plane flight and watching the Nido show

user_727345, sorry for late reply, but where did you get that $13k figure? I found the following on the College Factual site:

81.0% of incoming freshmen (1,124 total) were awarded scholarships at High Point University, averaging $9,307 per student. This ranks in the top 40th percentile of all colleges in the nation.

153 first years were awarded a grant. About 11.0% of High Point freshmen got grants with an average of $4,737 per person.

To me, that sounds like you can expect more like $9.3k unless you are in that 11% who qualify for grants (probably Pell grants for lower-income families)

Our college advisor gave us the numbers and stated it was based on last years numbers.

Wow these numbers seem really low & are definitely scaring me off from having my daughter apply ED. Is this all above the $10k merit they start out with? They are telling me my daughter is a potential & good contender for a full scholarship & her stats are similar to what you have been saying. Can you verify just the additional amount you received based on the interviews not including the $10k merit or $3k Honors? Were you put into a tier with your acceptance letter that would determine the amount you would qualify for? The admissions counselor mentioned that as well. How did total cost compare to Davidson with their financial aid & awards? Thank you so much your help will be greatly appreciated!
