Interviews at Presidential Scholarship Weekend at HPU

My daughter was invited to the Scholarship weekend and I'm wondering if anyone can help with what she should expect in the interviews. How many interviews? Who are the interviewers? What type of questions? etc.

This is our first time and we're completely in the dark. Thanks for any help.

it’s been a few years but if things haven’t changes it was two interviews. Wear conservative professional business attire. I can’t remember exactly her question… (only 1 her first interviewer never showed up!) Something like explain your strenghts and weaknesses.

they stress over and over again not to get to stressed out and worked up over the interviews. Honestly it’s more to get you on campus one more time and see the school. you child’s merit will be what her grades/stats will yield. I believe the interviewers are professors at the school.

Get ready for the fanfare! It’s quite an event!

Thanks lefty1.

My daughter has already been promised the top of the range for her scores. The invitation said that she was being invited to “Compete to increase your academic scholarship at High Point University.”

We’re aware that she is not guaranteed anything additional but she wants to give it a try. (Her scholarships at the three other schools that she applied to were more than double what HPU offered.)

The trip won’t be wasted one way or the other as we were planning to go back for her to see the school one more time.

I’m surprised your first interviewer didn’t show up, everything seemed so well planned and organized for the open house we attended. That doesn’t leave a very good impression for a school that seems to know how to sell itself.

it was a strange thing… I’m sure it does not happen often. No one could seem to find him. She just hung out with the students working the event while they radioed around trying to find the interviewer. Everything will be very organized when you go for this weekend. Almost to the point of being stepford wives like! lol… I have never seen anything run like this before… We were to take a bus to the school and be in the lobby at a certain time… to the minute that bus pulled up. The weekend continued like that other than the interview. I agree about the wording… they want you to try to increase your money. I’d just love to talk to one person who actually DID get that increase. Two years ago you were required to attend the weekend or you gave up any academic monies. It seems like they have changed that and it’s a move in the right direction. I agree I would have gone back again once more to make a final decision as well so the weekend would have been a trip no matter what. For our particular year I just didn’t appreciate our scholarship amount being held as a ransom for us to attend! lol! But once again, glad to hear that is changing. :)

Heading to HPU with our son on Friday for the Presidential Scholarship Weekend. We’re very interested to see the school again and hear Dr Qubein speak. That is always a treat.

We had a great time at the Presidential Scholarship Weekend. As is typical at HPU, it was a well run event. Dr Qubein was inspiring. We always come away impressed with the maturity and friendliness of the High Point students we meet when we are on campus. The University is clearly doing something right. We learned more about the Universityduring the weekend but the program was clearly focused on attracting students to HPU. We are going to early registration in March and hope to learn a lot more then, when they are speaking to committed students. We are still waiting for results from Scholarship Weekend.

@inquisitive i’m waiting to hear as well!

We didn’t hear when they plan to send out the results. Perhaps they are waiting to get through with their Regular Decision kids later this month before making final decisions on scholarships. Our son is more interested in finding out whether he got into the Leadership Program.

@inquisitive i was told we’ll hear by the 10th! i’m also waiting to hear if i got into the media fellowship

Good luck to you. My son is really looking forward to HPU. He plans to live in UC2.

Son got his scholarship letter yesterday and is pleased. There was nothing in the letter about the leadership fellowship. We don’t know whether that means anything or not.

@hopmayer did they tell you when you would hear about the Media Fellows program?

@dogsrthebest i was told in my presidential package!! i was accepted as 1 of the 16 media fellow positions  woo! i also got a presidential fellows scholarship! very exciting. apparently all offers were in presidential letters this year. over 300 applicants for the media fellows! crazy to compete for 1 of 16 spots!

Congratulations hopmayer# That is a tremendous accomplishment.

thanks!
