Hello, I am asking this because I want to be prepared for applications to boarding schools/high schools. I am applying to the following schools:
- Leysin American School in Switzerland
- Brilliantmont International School in Switzerland
- Stanford Online High School
- Laurel Springs Online High School
- Phillips Exeter Academy
- Phillips Andover Academy
- The Lawrenceville School
- Choate Rosemary Hall
- Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil
I would be a 9th grader applying to go into 10th grade from Florida, USA.
Here are some of my qualifications:
Academics:
- I go to FLVS, an online school because I am an avid tennis player that trains 5 hours a day and I have many extracurricular activites
- In 8th grade I took honors biology, adv M/J 8th grade English, honors algebra 1, adv M/J civics, adv M/J 8th grade science, honors French 1
In 9th grade (freshman year), I will be taking AP environmental science, AP human geography, French 2 honors, English 1 honors, Geometry honors and Algebra 2 honors
I took the SSAT and scored 99
Other:
I speak Portuguese and I am learning French
I do a lot of volunteer work at my local soup kitchen
Extra curricular activities:
Writer- I am currently working on a novel that I hope to get published next year, I write essays and enter many writing contests that I have placed top three in, writing is probably one of my greatest talents and my essays are all excellent
Tennis- I play tennis 5 hours a day and I am ranked top 150 in the nation for my age group
Artist- I draw portraits very well and my oil paintings are good too
Music- I can sing and take singing lessons once a week
Sorry, I pressed post by accident! I forgot to mention that I get straight A+ for all of my courses in 8th and I probably will in 9th too. Anyways, I might want to go to an international school in another country like I listed in the schools I was applying to so do you think that I could get into these schools? Also, if not then what would I have to do to get in? I only have a couple months so if you think that I should take more challenging courses or work on more extracurriculars. Also if I should join any honors societies, if i can get in and which ones… please give me information so that I have the best chance to get into these schools.
I think this would be best moved to a different forum, such as High School life. I also doubt you are going to get very good advice. This place is great for college advice, not so much for high school advice.
@ConcernedRabbit I think she might find some pretty good info on here actually… this is a prep/high school/boarding school column and that’s what she asking about and if she was in the normal high school life, people couldn’t advise her as well on boarding schools.
You have a good chance. Mention the writing thing, I applied to Andover (although I was waitlisted) and I’ve written a couple novellas. They love to talk about your interests in interviews. Also, you can get recruited for the American boarding schools if you’re really good at tennis. Write to the coach, get a demo video.
Oh ok! I really wanna know about the international schools though most of all!
Laurel springs is a great online school for athletes. I k ow a top ranked tennis player as well as a top rank squash player who do LS.
kylie jenner went to laurel springs and now she’s a billionaire
Yes, I am an athlete that is why I am applying. But I mainly want to go to an international school in another country to study abroad.
First of all, I’m pretty sure you don’t have to apply to Laurel Springs, I’m believe as long as you can pay, you’re in. I definitely think that the schools you have mentioned will appreciate your level of skill in tennis. You will obviously need to make sure your SSAT score is at least up in the high 80s. So start studying now! Straight As are a must, as well. If you need financial aid, this could limit you when it comes to the international schools. Overall though, I think you have a pretty decent chance of getting into most or all of the schools you apply to. Good luck!
