<p>I know this is a college forum, but this seems to be a better place to ask about auditions. My child is auditioning for a specialized high school theater program. It is a private/boarding school, and the audition is a part of the application process. The applications/interviews/auditions need to be completed by mid-January. We have scheduled the interview and audition for end of October, but I've been told that's not enough prep time. So, I want to reschedule the audition piece (audition can be scheduled independently of interview).</p>
<p>What are your opinions on timing of the audition? Is it better to audition closer to the application deadline, so you're fresh in their minds? Or is it better to schedule it during a lower stress time (i.e., not at the same time you're trying to get your applications done)? (I'm thinking just before winter break.)</p>

<p>I wouldn’t worry about being “fresh” in their minds. You can’t really predict anything about auditors’ reaction to your child’s audition or game the system in any way. (Though if you read the audition threads, you can see lots of people thinking about this and trying.) What you can control – what your child can control – is the quality of the audition So yes, reschedule it for later if you’re not ready now. Don’t do it until it’s as good as it can be. Before winter break should be fine. good luck.</p>
<p>Agreed- you can make yourself crazy if you try to overthink, and it may or may not work anyway. D had a friend who scheduled their audition for their #1 school last year on the last day of auditions (which took place over a couple months), b/c they wanted to be “fresh in the mind”. Turned out (able to find this out through some back channels) that it hurt the kid- the college - which was only taking a dozen people - had already found someone of this kid’s “type”. Have your kid get ready, give the best audition they can, and then “let it go”.</p>
