So if I want to become a Biochemical Engineer, what high school science classes should I take? Should I take any engineering or computer science classes? And is there any other electives I should take in order to pursue my career?
Particularly important:
- Math to as high a level as is available to you.
- All three of biology, chemistry, and physics.
High school engineering courses could be a way for you to determine your interest in engineering.
A biochemical engineer is usually a Chemical Engineer with a biochem emphasis. So anything that would apply to chemical engineering, such as AP Chem, AP Calc, AP Physics, etc.
My daughter is doing chem e. She took her four year math and science sequence to the highest level and then for electives did Honors Organic Chem, Pre-Engineering I, II and III, CS, and AP stats.
