I am a Junior in high school Currently taking ap physics 1 (first physics class) this is one of 4 ap classes and I am doing fine in all of them. I am not sure what I will major in yet. Engineering, law and actuarial science are all possibilities. I love math and love physics even more. ap physics 1 is purely mechanics and is algebra based. I have the option of taking physics 2 which is e&m or physics c which is calculus based e&m as well as mechanics. I would be taking calc at the same time as this class. I love the mechanics and im really shady on how much i will like e&m after briefly talking to my teacher about it. I am also considering taking ap computer science a in case that would spark an interest in software engineering/development. ap stats is also a possibility as it would help with actuary route. I forgot to mention physics c would be an “independent study” with a couple of extremely smart kids and the help of a physics teacher in her planning bell so most of it would be self taught. I am currently taking engineering models which is a coding class and I really enjoy it. any advice would help so much thanks
I’d take Physics C. You can take it concurrent with AB. My son did.
As for what to do for major, I’d choose engineering based on what you’ve posted. You can always switch to actuarial science (if your school has it) if engineering doesn’t seem to fit. Switching the other way would be more challenging.
Then, if law is still in the mix, having a technical degree could make for a very powerful combo for a lawyer.
