Hosa, at least to me, seems to be another “fbla”-type club, focusing mostly on competitions & rather incoherent events. I’ll stick with the fpaclub for now guys, thanks for the input. Their site has helped me extensively, and their idea is much more simple.

I looked at their website, and it’s very hopeless. There is no information whatsoever about the club, how to start a chapter, etc. Totally unprofessional looking, too.

SeekingUni - thank you for the link to Doctors of Tomorrow. My sophmore son is interested in medical school and this would be a great way to show some leadership. His private school has a health system partner that would be great to draw into this club.

^ No problem! I have the same interest as your son and am a sophomore as well. I was thinking the exact same thing in regards this being a great leadership opportunity. I think it would be awesome to include on a college app that, “I founded the Doctors of Tomorrow club at my school, [etc…].”

I’m going to consult with my AP Biology teacher to see if perhaps she’d be interested in serving as our club adviser.

Anyways, best of luck to your son and his endeavors!

SeekingUni- I just spoke with my son and he is very interested. He’s quite lucky that they have the health system partnership with their school system. I told my son he needs to write a proposal and submit it to his school. Good luck to you - keep me posted on whether you get your club started or not.

With regards to fpaclub.com being unprofessional, I would have to disagree. They do have an example constitution that you can download in .doc format to see what the main rules/objectives of the club are.

There is information about starting a chapter at your local university/school. They have been very helpful and friendly to me when I first started my own chapter at my own school.

As a bonus, they have a forum with many different/interesting health-related/research topics.

I needed to write a current event about effective cancer treatment and used their search feature to find the articles I needed without having to look through a whole bunch of other websites. (they currently have over 13,000 news articles!)

Overall, my experience with them has been positive and they have been supportive of me every step of my journey since I started the club at my school. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to do it!

Looking at their site, there is little to nothing about starting a chapter. I have no idea what the first steps are or anything. Their forums, with only 50 members total, and only 11 active, seem to be nothing but an aggregation of medical news stories from the Internet. Sure, it makes it easier to find health articles, but that is in no way related to what we’re looking for.

Where is the information on starting a chapter?

Compared to Doctors of Tomorrow, their website is nonfunctional and provides no direction or guidance. The DoT website is extremely upfront and provides all the information that one would need.

I believe that you are just blind or blatantly supporting DOT.

Step 1: Go to www.fpaclub.com
Step 2: Use your extraocular muscles to look to the left side of your screen for a box labeled [RECENT ARTICLES].

How hard was that? Can you not just follow two simple steps?

You should see “establish/maintain” chapter , also “start your own fpa chapter today” with a doc file which lists an example fpaclub constitution. I also CONTACTED them, and they gave me more than enough information and guidance to start my own chapter. They have been with me from the beginning (just contact them and see how considerate and helpful they really are—literally, at your service 24/7)

Their website might take some time getting used to, but once you do, it’s easy to navigate. Plus, I have seen many FPA chapters that are open throughout many different schools, and have never heard of DOT.

Ultimately, it’s your choice. But I’m definitely sticking with those that have my back 24/7, and that’s FPA. I’m not saying that DOT cannot do the same; I won’t judge DOT because I have never contacted them/used their services, and I don’t see a reason why I should have to when FPA is already around.

(By the way, they want you to contact them if you want to open a chapter…hence, they state: “Please inquire today about how you can become a part of our growing membership here at the FPA CLUB and open a chapter at your school today!”

The “aggregation of medical news stories” you mention; I see that just as an added bonus to the site itself, a unique feature per se.

FPA and DOT both sound like great clubs. i would like to create a club like these at my school, but both links are dead now… does anyone know if the domain name changed for both these sites or not?
