high school grades for transfer students

On Caltech's website, it says "Applicants for admission are evaluated according to information submitted on the transfer application, college (and, in some cases, high school) course work and grades, evaluations from instructors, and performance on the Caltech Transfer Entrance Examinations. "

Now it certainly sounds like Caltech doesn't seem to care much for high school grades. Why does it say, "in some cases, high school"? What does "some cases' mean?

Thanks

If you are applying for transfer admission two years or more out of high school, then the college record will be weighted more and the high school record less. The basic point is that if you didn't do super-well in high school but shaped up in college, sometimes the high school grades can be weighted much less.
